You will know when you obliviously try and seat a LPP into one and you make a nice bright ring of brass around the spp pocket while wondering what you just messed up...

Ask most of us how we'd know but won't publicly admit...

Eta: I am usually so pissed off any time I see a NT case I toss it immediately. I think this is a revenue generating conspiracy by federal so they can keep selling you new brass. I have elaborated on this previosly. :ugeek:

So how frustrating is it when you did not sort the brass for a new problem as this, and are happily priming a bucket of cases, and then the dreaded [small primer pocket case] shows up and screws up the hand primer, and my hand?? I think Federal is trying to stick it to the reloader, and I will send them a note and will stop buying there products, just to send them a message, {leave well enough alone}. Large is large and small is small. Simple is safer. Grumpy old man. :x

I'm not so sure this is a terribly new development. I've been findnig the Federal NT cases for years, and its my understanding that some manufacturers have had some form of .45 with spp for decades.

I don't disagree that its a pain in the ass...... but I'm not so sure its a conspirasy thing against the reloaders.
If you're reading this, there are better than even odds you are a d-bag.

Its not...its a conspiracy against setting up two seperate lines to make the same product, or retooling the same line to between runs of the same product. Eventually all the LPP .45 is going away, so you won't have to worry about sorting any longer.

Whew. What a relief to those of us with thousands and thousands and thousands of large pistol primers.

So what are you waiting for -- shoot more!

Edit: You've got a few years yet...I wouldn't worry. Too many people making a stink about SPP brass to make the LPP go away completely yet. Just don't plan on finding the LPP Federal stuff at WalMart anymore.

No worries there.

You might want to wait and see on that. Winchester has made the descision to move their operations to the deep South, their QC may be suspect for a while.

http://www.costar.com/News/Article/Ammo ... ppi/124315

Olin Corp. will move its Winchester Centerfire ammunition factory and about 1,000 jobs from East Alton, IL, north of St. Louis, to Oxford, MS.

The company made the announcement last week after members of International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) Lodge 660 twice rejected a union proposal that would have allowed the Centerfire plant to remain in East Alton, according to an Olin release. The company, which manufactures all munitions for Winchester firearms, informed the unions in August that it was considering relocating operations to Oxford to enhance the competitiveness of its operations. The company engaged in discussions with union leaders over the past two months.

Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour offered a $25 million incentive package to build the plant in Oxford, part of a $100 million investment by Olin in the new facility. The incentives will allow Olin to build a 500,000-square-foot factory near its existing facility in Oxford, where it will house all Centerfire operations in one building. "Combined with lower labor costs, those efficiencies will allow us to deliver quality products and compete effectively in this highly competitive industry," said Joseph D. Rupp, chairman, president and CEO.
