Unfortunately, to me a primed case means one with a live primer in it. Whether it's dirty or clean is another issue altogether. A fired case means it has a fired primer in it. Apart from that, we're on the same page, and yes, picking hard little walnut shells from 100's of 9mm cases really does suck!

Used dental instruments work a whole lot better. Or that little pack of awls that you can buy at Menard's with reddish handles on them.
