9mm Pet loads?

Postby promod1385 on Tue Jun 05, 2012 8:09 am

Anyone have a load worked up for 9mm they would like to share? I have a new X5 I plan on loading some test rounds up for this evening. I have 115gr and 124gr RN plated projectiles on hand. I am also considering some 124gr HP's (i have heard they should be more accurate).

I have AA#7, Titegroup, and Unique on hand for powders.

I have heard these X5 barrels can be tight and it may effect velocity a bit so the load I am currently using to make minor in my XD may not make minor in the X5. The gun is quite a bit heavier than my XD does this extra weight in the slide sap power from the gun?

Thanks in advance.

You first! Image

I wouldn't use titegroup for 9mm!

IIRC, Warner uses Unique.

I use AA-7 ... jest go by the book ... s/b fine! Some might suggest it's a bit slow ... but I barely even need to resize my fired cases! ;)

Minor s/b no problem!

Titegroup is a quite acceptable powder for 9mm. Hodgdon lists a half dozen 9mm loads between 115gr and 147gr using Titegroup.

I've been using 3.5gr of TG pushing a 147gr MG. Works great for me.

I agree Titegroup is a powder ill suited for 9mm. Lots of pressure, not much case volume and way more smoke than my #7 load.

#7 is soooo much cleaner burning too.

Anyone use WST?

I've used Unique and Win231 with success. I still don't let my pets shoot them though.

I use WST 4.0 gr under 125 g lead and I like it. Can't double charge a case either. I tried titegroup for a bit but it was way too smoky.

Have you loaded with AA#7 at all? Any comparison with the WST? With AA#7 I do notice some clear/brown/yellow granules on my feed ramp at times but very little carbon build up anywhere on the gun.

#7 is cleaner but recoil is much more noticeable then TG. That's why I use TG, get back on target faster.

That's good intel and feedback. I have never loaded any 9mm with TG. I know its a nice "push" in my 45acp's I always just assumed that was the caliber more so than the powder.

I also use Power Pistol with great success. I'm using Montana Gold JHP 124 grain. 6.4 grains of powder. I'm staring at 1500 rounds begging to be shot!!! ;)

I use 6.4grs with 115gr bullet, and 6grs with a 124gr bullet. Only 1500? lol. time to get out and shoot!

I would say PP and #7 give a hard snap. TG gives more of a medium push. It's all felt recoil an everyone fells it differant. I think 3.4gr of clays fells better then 3.5gr of TG for 40 minor. Someone on this board that I shoot with regularly fells the TG has a softer recoil. By no means am I an expert but I have spent/wasted a lot of money and time on different powders trying to find the magical powder that I like the best. Hell I'm playing with HS-6 right now for my 40 major load.
