I sent this question to Hornady:
I have one of your LNL AP presses. I reload for a number of calibers including .308 and .45. For other companies, the shell plate is the same for both calibers, but I noticed that you have a specific plate for .45(#45) and .308(#1). Could I run .45 on the #1 plate or .308 on the #45 plate? What issues would I have?
And got this back:
If you were to purchase one of the shell plates you would need to buy the one corresponding to the caliber wanted to ensure it will work correctly with our press.
What I didn't include, and why I'm asking here, is that the #45 shellplate has been backordered for longer than a month, but the #1 I can get fairly quickly. I'm not so concerned about loading 308 on a progressive - as I have a single stage for my accuracy loads - but I'm wondering if anyone has experience loading .45 off the #1 plate? Conversely, if I were to decide wait for the #45, I'm curious if anyone tried loading .308 on one?
