Postby BigDog58 on Mon Feb 18, 2013 10:36 pm

I just purchased a .243 for my wife today snd need some bullet advice. She's going to be shooting targets out to 200 yds. and I would like some advice/opion's on bullet eeihht to use on the .243? I've never loaded for a .243 but will begin discoveing what this weapon likes and a good starting point would be helpful.

Thanks

ya can try over 100gr, but I wouldn't be surprised if they don't group well ... I used 87gr VMax ... was purdy happy with them ... if Warner's still got his load-data, ya could try PMing him ... he was shootin' dimes at 200yd!

I shoot 70 gr Nosler BT with a load of 4064 and it is mild and very accurate. Check the loading books and start having some fun.

I am using 100 grain Hornady BTSP and Nosler 90 grain ballistic tips with Reloder 19 in a Savage 11 9.25" twist and accutrigger. I also have some 55 grain Nosler Varmegeddon I am hoping to try once a day off falls on a nice day.

Buddy confirmed he had 100gr at my place a couple weeks ago - that'd put a cloverleaf at 100yds without a good table or chair.

Frankly, that $350 .243 savage package was every bit as accurate as my cooper off the same platform. :o And the trigger SUCKS.

BigDog,

.243 is a nice caliber. What kind did you get her?

Shot a bunch of deer with the Hornady 100gr. Spire point #2450, & big dose of IMR 4350 or H380

I did a full load development for the 95gr Hornady SST last year and didn't get time to test them before deer season. That rifle ended up shooting a deer with Federal blue box 100gr. I have recently rethought my choice of the 95gr SST and planning on using the Sierra 100gr BTSP next year in that rifle. Just have to shoot up all those SST's first. :D

I got her a Remington 770 for $250 shipped.

Oldman, I may take you up on coming over . I'll get in touch with you after your situation settles. I hope all went good.

Thanks for everyone's advice and help. Now, if the dang weather will warm up enough to get outside and shoot. I will now have two new rifles to test...
