I'm finishing up on my last tumbler of brass right now.
I have spent the past week tumbling last summer's brass.
All came out looking like ruger mans.
Nice and shinny.
.45acp, 9mm, .40S&W, .45 Colt, .44 Mag, .41 Mag, .357 Mag, 38 special, and a bunch of various rifle brass of mine.
Keeping it simple with the Tumbler, Separator, and the correct recipe of media, and I'm ready to go for the next 7 months of shooting.
Also, all four of my reloaders are up and running in my reloading room.
Flat screen TV, coffee pot on, a fridge full of cola and pickled herring, and reloading, makes me a happy camper.

I like that Amazon deal - if you don't already have a polish additive of choice you can do 25 quarts of tumbling media + a bottle of NuFinish polish for $30.67 shipped:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001GGTWTC

http://www.amazon.com/Nu-Finish-Liquid- ... B000BPSW7C

Just add tumbler, media separator and a roll of paper towels or used dryer sheets (add them in small squares to pick up dust) and you're off to the races.

I've combined a few methods I've seen here for cleaning brass and am currently doing the following:

All fired brass gets thrown in the tumbler with media + polish for 1-2 hours to knock off the worst and then inspected/sorted and bagged for storage. For 44 magnum I reload the tumbled brass in a carbide die set as-is... With .308 and 7mm RemMag I'll lube-size, clean up flash holes and trim before using Sam's "lemon juice boil" method to clean the brass a second time to remove sizing lube and give it that slick "showroom new" look before before priming and loading it in my single-stage press.

Yeah, the lemon juice boil after using Imperial Die Wax on my 357 Sig brass works great!! I wash the lubed and resized brass in water and dish soap to get the worst of the lube off (takes about 4 min) and then heave it it in the boiling lemon water and that shines it up and blows every last trace of lube off the cases.

I wouldn't be opposed to usin' somethin' other than Iosso ... but, the one time I did ... the Lyman "turbo polish" 'er some thing ... it was crap! ... ended up throwin' it out! ... and buyin' another can of Iosso! Can lasts me a couple years ... so I doubt I'll **** with it, again! :|

My Wife is a Saint RugerMan.
I have my reloading room looking like a '40s cabin with all knotty pine woodwork and cabinets, along with a double sink, with about a dozen mounts and old west paintings.
One of my Daughter's friends says that she wants to get married in that room.

As long as you guys are talking about tumbling....

I'm cleaning some 5.56 using walnut shells and after 3-4 hours they look pretty decent, except I'm finding small patches of black, tarry stuff, mostly on the necks and shoulders. I don't know what it is or where it is coming from. It seems most of it is on the Lake City 01 brass. It comes off pretty easy with a rag sprayed with Hornady One Shot.

Anyone run into this before? Is there anything I can add to the media to get it off in the tumbler?

Are ya not otherwise adding anything to the shells?!

Go to the 2nd post in this thread ... one of them links is fer Iosso case polish ... make sure ya get the "polish" ... not the "cleaner"! ;)

ETA: when's the last time ya cleaned yer tumbler?! :? ... I use Windex ... works purdy good! ... like new, actually!

I had to look. I added Flitz media additive when I started with the walnut shells. Maybe its time for new media. I've probably tumbled 5000 rounds of 9mm and 1000 rounds of .308.

Not sure what color your walnut is ... my corncob starts out fairly light ... gets darker purdy quick ... but, I usually wait 'til it's purdy dark, 'fore I replace it.

I pour in a healthy dose of Iosso, with new media. If it starts to get purdy dusty, I'll either add more Iosso, 'er replace the media! Lately, I've been replacing it more, than adding Iosso ... not that that's very often ... but a 40 lbs bag of corncob lasts a very long time ... even replacing a bowl full every few months!

FWIW, I don't think 5,000 9mm + 1,000 .308 is all that much ... to be replacing media?! Ya certainly could! Maybe try a small can of Iosso, next time ya replace yer walnut?! ... and clean the tumbler! ;)

Thanks. I just started a batch with some Lyman corn cob that I bought awhile back. I'll see if that makes any difference.

I'll put the Iosso on the shopping list.
