What height for my reloading bench?

What is the ideal reloading bench height ? I am building my bench and was wondering what height you went with and why? I will be using a 2x4/2x6 bench frame with some countertops that I found at the home depot cheap. I think I am going to use more of a barstool type of chair but that is not set in stone.

Personally, I like to be at stool height. If you browse the 18 some odd pages of pictures of reloading benches in this section, you will get an idea of how many people set up their bench. I wouldn't feel right sitting in a easy chair reloading, but it appears some people do.

I built mine to bar stool height. Sometimes it feels better on my back to stand instead of sit. The lower shelf worked out to be a nice footrest to.

My 4' x 8' workbench is bar stool height, and my 30" x 60" reloading bench is desk height. The bar stools are okay if I'm swaging out primer crimps that takes 20 minutes, but I can't take sitting on a bar stool for two hours, and both my butt and back will hurt after that. When I'm processing a lot of brass, I'm sitting in an old Steelcase manager's chair that has good lumbar support and full back support up to the shoulders.

What height do you consider barstool height? I dont spend much time in a bar anymore! I am thinking about one bench at desk height and on bench at bar height (just in case I have a cocktail when the reloading is done ) the desk will end up holding blueprints on occasion so it will have my comfy desk chair at it and I have a couple adjustable height barstools with backs for the higher bench.

Mine is the height of a office desk but I also use a office chair on wheels so I can roll from one desk to the other.
I'm always chasing something around. Works for me.

I ended up with 36 or 38 inches, cannot remember which one. Works for my height to sit on the adjustable bar chair or stand. I am 6' for your reference.

My set-up is at standard desk height and I sit in a rolling office chair. When I get a second press, I will be adding a taller work space so I can stand when I work. I often spend all day sitting at my computer for work, and being able to stand while I work would be a nice change of pace. Not for everybody, but maybe something to consider. A stool height bench would probably work for standing was well.

Mine is desk height. I have a terlet which is at stool height.

You don't mention what press you are using nor how you mount it. I have all Lee Presses that I use the Lee quick change mounting system mounted directly ar bench height. I sit on a dinning room height chair, and my bench top is at 32". It works perfect for me, because I'm unable to stand and work at my bench. I am about 5'11".

I personally don't like sitting at a work bench because I have poor posture which gives me a back ache but that's just me. Mine is at 36" and I have a dillon 550 on a strongmount and its just right. I am 5'8". I also have a forster coax that's mounted right at the bench height but that one could be higher. The ergonomics really depends on your height and how you are comfortable working but I hope this gives you some idea.

I have three reloading benches in my reloading room. One of them I have to stand to reload. The other two are different heights and my stool and chairs I have built to fit me. However, all of them are set so I can see my Flat Screen TV.

To actually use my press: I like my bench top right about at my belt buckle.

My situatuion: Dillon 550 right on the bench. No strong mount (raised mount). I like my arms to not be fully locked straight on the downward end of the press stroke.

I am 6'5" and my bench top is at 43" tall. I can comfortably use the press standing or from my drafting chair. I also put an anti fatigue mat on the floor. Honestly I stand when I reload 95% of the time.

When I prep rifle brass I sit. Go figure.

Make sure your bench top has an overhang in front so your press doesnt hit the vertical face when you run the handle. Dillon presses fyi need approx. 1" of overhang.

standard counter tops are 36".
standard desk is about 27-28"

I had a bench at 42" that was kind of nice. The work area on the presses got to be a bit too high I though. I am thinking 40" for my next bench.

Looking for something that will be a comfortable level to work while standing.
