Reloader in training

Postby aht_six on Sun Mar 02, 2014 8:34 pm

The Grand-kids are staying with us while schools on spring break. The little one is only 8, but so far she's following directions and staying on task. Her and and older brother finished resizing over 1000 .45 acp cases today.

Great training!

My son started at age two - handing copper bullets to Dad one at a time - that was 21 years ago.
My daughter started at age five, except making wind chime out of my clean brass. She reloads on her own now whenever she comes home.

About 20 or so years ago my daughter loaded my elk hunting ammo in .300 Win Mag & 200 gr. Partitions. It took for ever with the powder, she had to have the scale beam exactly balanced with the large dose of IMR 7828 powder being used. Took hours, but she loaded up 40 rounds that day and was very proud of here accomplishment.

Wait til the kids find out how much fun it is dropping powder and playing with it. Just kidding I know we are all more careful than that but the image is funny. Kind of like finger painting.

Reloader in training

Postby mzdadoc on Mon Mar 03, 2014 6:42 pm

I have to say I tried bonding with my 15 year old and he got bored right away. I was bummed!!! I have step sons now 5, 7, & 9 and I think the middle one who I butt heads with the most would really enjoy it. His mom thinks I'm too hard on him but she doesn't see how he is with me alone. She gets around and I'll just say UGH!!!!

My son is 23 and in the Navy, he never really took to guns or shooting as a kid, even now, and only if it is a cool gun. My daughter that is 28 is more into guns, shoots at the home range with friends and her husband and has loaded their own .38 special ammo on dad's equipment and of course using dad's components. Don't give up on the step sons, might be a bonding thing when loading and shooting with dad. ;)

My Son has always been more interested in emptying the cases than reloading them. He hunted with me and hung around with us at the gun club for years. He developed into a fine trap shooter and good rifleman. He still hunts deer with me, but hasn't had much time for prairie dogs or trap since he started a family.

My daughter shot with me some, mostly handguns. We still shoot pistols together occasionally.
