Powder for .45 ACP

what is being used for powder for .45 acp, I am new and trying to figure out what to look for for a beginner into reloading also any one have any good places in Wisconsin to get powder??

I currently use TiteGroup. Previously I used Accurate # 5 or 7. I have also used Clays and 231. They all worked for me.

That's way too generic. There are MANY acceptable powders. Have you started with a book? Where in Wisconsin are you? You may want to try to see oldmanfcsa for a little lesson.

I haven't loaded .45 yet, but I have all the components and five different acceptable powders with load sheets for each.

I have lymans reloading hand book 49th edition, and every thing else I need except powder I am using a lee turret press, I have large pistol cci primers and I have some hornadys XTP 200 grain .45 ACP bullets, so far I have 61 shells from last time I went shooting, I have the carbid dies too for the turret press, I plan to see him when I get time and more $$, I live near Hudson wisonsin

You are right in the area I think. Nice. My advice, take it slow...I am. I will probably spend less time reloading in the next year than I spent researching in the year before.

Unique is a nice easy one, and bullseye is another I will be using.

yes I will be doint some more research before I even begin to mess with it I am just tryng to get an idea of the powder and what ppl are using, also where to locate it because right now I haven't had much luck besides online and umm yea I don't wan tto spent 30 for hazmat if I can help it I have limited budget, I also need to find more brass umm once fired brass for .45 ACP

Lots of good powders for the 45. Selection can depend on what you are going to do with the ammo.
Soft shooting range ammo, Bowling pin ammo or high velocity SD ammo?

For soft shooting, scary accurate and clean burning range ammo, I like WST.

For high velocity JHP ammo it's hard to beat Ramshot Silhouette. Silhouette with get a 230gr bullet up and over 950fps out of a 5 inch 1911 and still stay out of +P range.

Ramshot True Blue is also a favorite of mine.

thank you I am reading up on things there is a lot to know for sure, I wont be ready to reload for a while yet as I want to ensure I don't destroy my beloved 1911, or 357, I am also in the prossess of setting up a designated reloading area, once I get this reloading figured out I plan to also reload 7.62x54r, but it looks like that will be even more complex, oh I also have a lee safty powder scale, and to back that up I have a aws-100 digital scale, and a digital caliper, and a set of precition weights "100g, 50g, 20g, 20g, 10g, 5g, also a bullet puller, far as what I intend to shoot I will be target shooting, paper, and eventualy plates, metal pistol targets, at some point I would like to exsperiment with ballistic gel, but for now just the basics will be great, I am still reading lymans 49th, oh also recommendations on other books to get??

When you come up to Osceola for some training, I will have 3000 pcs of SS Pin cleaned 45AUTO once-fired brass available for you, or others if they contact me.

I've gravitated to 231 as my "one size fits all" powder for .45ACP, 9mm and .38 Special. Tried TiteGroup, but it's too "mild to wild" for my taste. In .45ACP 231 provides a couple key benefits to new (and experienced) hand-loaders -

1) A wide range of safe charge weights
2) meters well/consistently
3) smells nice when it goes "boom"

It is probably not the best for specific needs- there are better powders for Bullseye, pin, and steel shooting etc. 231 does all well in an easy to use and forgiving manner.

Well, my 800 lb. reloading troll senses are tingling, so I might as well point out that if you actually READ all the info in Lyman 49 on the 45 ACP it clearly says that Bullseye, Unique and 231 are the best powders for nearly all 45 loads. In addition, for each bullet, the load shown in BOLD type is the best powder for that bullet, so why are you asking us for this info when it's clearly printed out in the manual for the caliber in general and each bullet tested?? Hmmmmm??? Sounds to me like you have n00b reloading "hot to trot fever", and want to ask us rather than spending even half an hour studying 3 pages in the manual.

ok valid however I am reading the lymans 49th, right now I am in the safty at the beginning of the book as I have never done this before, also as so far I have had not much luck finding any powder I was asking so that when I do find some, I will know if it is something I should pick up or should I keep looking, troll away i know this not something to just jump into and exspect to be come exspert at, however asking don't hurt when i am just trying to find from other users, what has worked good for them, i do value your 800 pound troll, becouse it does remind me that i need to really think about this, and read more, safty first always!!
