Cast boolits 300 AAC

Postby JJ on Mon May 05, 2014 7:04 am

For volume plinking in my 300AAC AR's, I have been looking around for some cast bullets. Most of the cast bullets I have found information on, are heavy 200g+ for sub's. I am looking around for bullets under 150g that will feed in the AR platform. I have no desire to get into casting my own right now, I am looking for commercially available options.

Secondarily, I have been looking at any number of the various powder coat options, instead of lube. As I understand it (having only ever loaded cast pistol rounds with lube) after the PC process, the bullets need to be resized. Should sizing to .309 be sufficient, or, should I open up a die to .310?

I'm by no mean an expert on this subject, but I have talked at length to some folks that are. It is my understanding that heavy cast rounds are popular in 300blk because you will have less issues with leading than you would with a lighter faster projectile. All the guys I know that run lighter cast projectiles in their 300blk are casting their own and using gaschecks.

For plinking, I sometimes run these guys http://www.midwayusa.com/product/222789 ... box-of-100 in 300 black out. Not really cast but they are super cheap. They work okay in my 300blk upper. If you want some load data I can hit you with a pm.

Have been working with these in my 300blk. A little finicky, but seems to be worth it.

What's been "finicky"? Feeding issues?

They will feed fine, 6-8 rounds. Then one will dive into the feed ramp. Im not sure if it's a bullet issue or a magazine issue yet. Haven't had alot of time to play with it. I did read some other people having similar issues on the 300blk forum. But then again, others are reporting no issues.

I have bought from these guys before and they are great bullets. Looks like they have a few under 150gr.
