Anyone still looking for 22lr ammo?

Postby stesch_s10 on Fri Jul 11, 2014 10:41 am

Just wondering if anyone was looking for some 22lr ammo. In sioux falls, scheels has CCI standard velocity. $34.99/500. One brick limit. But I think they have 100+ bricks. Just letting people know.

I've been in a variety of places in the past couple of weeks (Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, South Dakota, the Detroit Lakes area) and every place I happened to be that sold ammo was out of .22 still. Not that I looked that hard, but here and there when I was in a Wal-mart or sporting goods place. Still pretty rare to find stock, it seems. Hard to believe the hoarding hasn't let up yet.

Last week I was at a Cabela's store in north Denver, CO and they were buried in CCI 22LR ammo.

One box limit was the only issue.

That still seems a bit spendy for me.

$34.99 a brick for CCI Standard Velocity is a good price IMO. Both Cabela's and Gander are selling it for $4.99 per 50 round box....and have a 2 box limit per customer.

You keep paying those prices and it will never come down to pre-scare prices.

$10.95 and I will buy 550 packs, not until then.

Guess I will need to open another 30CAL ammo can level full of 22LR I purchased back in the late 1990's.
Kids are off onto their own lives now, so I may as well shoot it up myself.

I was thinking my threshold was around $15.00 per 500.

Stopped at the Woodbury Cabela's after OGC range duty today. No .22 on the shelf. Saw a friend and he alerted me that hey just put some out. I found the Winchester Limited Edition 500 round box. $32.95. I put it in my cart but when I headed to pay I had doubts and put it back. Too rich for me when I still have a small stock pile at home.

What makes this "Limited Edition" so special? In searching for that image I see it branded for a few stores.

Pretty sure the little wood crate is the special thing.

I bought a CCI brick for ~$20 a couple months ago at the Lakeville FF, $35 is too much IMO.

They can keep it all at those prices.

Demand still outstrips supply, I'm actually glad to see retailers moving their prices up enough to cut back on the hoarding/resale market.. at $35 a brick people might just pick up one brick to shoot when they need it and leave the rest for someone else. Ammo purchase limits are clearly not fixing the problem as we're still in a market where people are ninja shopping Wal Mart based on ammo delivery schedules or running back and forth to their car bringing along their entire family to buy every brick they find in a store at $20...

I know of one place about 45 min away that I can always buy as much 22LR as I would want. Why do they always have it? Easy, it's always 10 cents a round... even when it's Remington Thunderbolt :(

I believe I know the place you speak of... I purchased thousands of rounds of 9mm and .22 there during the height of the ammo-panic (getting back into the shooting hobby at exactly the wrong time as well as introducing several family and friends to the sport). I always got a little angry looking at their prices, but then I figured it's a commodity like corn or gold and they are selling at market (spot) price instead of letting opportunistic scalpers take all the profit for zero overhead. That and they put it on the shelf, unlike all the other small FFLs that (presumably) put their shipments on auction sites instead of offering it to the walk-in consumer (even at auction prices).
