That's around $.10/round which is about double the real retail cost, especially since there's really nothing but range ammo in that lot minus the 250 CCI rounds.

I'll pass... it's slowly coming back, and guys like this will be more common and less expensive when it does.

There's a member here that's posted their stash that makes this look like a good start.

Walmart in Willmar had 3 boxes (1000 rounders) of the Winchester M-22 for $50.00 per box. I grabbed 2 and left one.

Found the .22!

The real retail cost: is that the cost for all the .22 ammo on the shelves? The real retail cost is on the auction sites which is the only place you can consistently get the stuff. If stores would float the cost up to where supply meets demand, the shortage would end in a week. But people who don't understand economics would scream "price gouging" and hate the retailers every time they went to buy the .22 ON THE SHELVES.
Oh, and the jerks who have been scalping would get stuck with their inventory.

And I hope the cost keeps going down so these gougers eat their overpriced inventory.

I suspect 10 cents a round retail is about where supply and demand would meet, at least in the near term. I'm still surprised that manufacturers have not raised prices further. Everything I've ever heard is that 22LR is not a real profitable round. If that is true then why would they not take this opportunity to make some money even if only for a short term? Why let the scalpers make all the money.

I seriously hope this guy froze his butt off standing outside Cabela's every week waiting to be first in line. I further hope that he is now in financial distress due to his speculative purchasing.

Lets try and break this down based on my memory of "retail" prices I've seen over the past year or so...

First the bulk ammo, which lets say average about 6.5 cents a round as we have a spread which will fall on both sides of that but is still probably pretty high:
4 - Remington 225 Rd Packs
3 - Remington 525 Rd Packs
2 - Winchester 100 Rd Packs
2 - Blazer 50 Rd Packs
8 - Remington Thunderbolt Packs
2 - Winchester 500 Round Bricks
4 - Blazer 500 Round Bricks
1 - Winchester 555 Pack
4 - Winchester 235 Packs
14 - Federal 550 Round Bricks
15,370 x 0.065 ~= $1000

Now the mini mags, which I'll give him full Gander "retail" of 8 cents:
23 - CCI HP Mini Mags 100 Rd
2300 x 0.08 = $184

Now the premium ammo which I think would be 17 cents:
28 - CCI Stinger 50 Rd
10 - CCI Velocitor 50 Rd
10 - CCI Segmented 50 Rd
2400 x 0.17 = $432

So total about $1600 for "full retail" (if that) and he says he paid $2022 for it all. Has to be a story here. Perhaps he bought some lots (or the lot as a whole) thinking he would then break it down further and charge even more for it. But then found out it's harder then he thought to offload it for a price he would actually make enough profit to make it worth his while.

.....................Or he made up the price he paid and is really just planning to make a profit disguised as a great deal.

This guy has been a busy beaver clearing out all the local retailers at his maximum per-visit purchase allotment over the last few months. As far as his "profit", he probably has that much value in time + gas tied up in grabbing all of it. It would probably be more profitable to just get a job mowing lawns, doing odd-jobs or flipping burgers for a couple hours a week. :)

Had to go to the local hardware shop last night and ask if they had any .22, 5 minutes later a box of 525 Federal for $19.99. Its coming back and I really hope the scalpers enjoy shooting up all their stock.

Still being bought up at sky high rediculous prices! Gunbrokers has a volume dealer that posts new guns and new ammo in case lots starting at ONE CENT!!! He really does start his auctions at ONE CENT and by and large, almost all of the centerfire ammo goes at or very near retail. The customers bid it up to that amount. But, Holy Crap....these same idiot customers are bidding .22 ammo up to sky high prices. Right now, there's a case of Federal 525 bulk packs (ten boxes, so a case is 5250 rounds) that started at a penny and is now over $500!!!! Yikes!!! It's not necessairly the dealers price gouging, it's the freakin customers! :o

I hate these prices. I had stockpiled 300 rounds, lol, for my daughter who comes home from camp this week. She's 13 and just started shooting with me this year. She can go through 300 rounds in a matter of a few hours. I just bought a 300blk AR-15 that I'd like to have her shoot, but she's unfamiliar with that platform. The range I go to, targetsports in Rogers, has an M&P for rent in 22lr. All this to say, I was desperate for good ammo that won't jam. So, I found 500 cci velocitors and 500 cci stingers for $90 each ($180 total). Really makes me mad and no one forced me, but she's at an age where if she enjoys it, maybe she'll like it enough to continue throughout her life.

I just bought 2 Winchester 222 boxes for $10.97 each at Walmart.

I have been able to stay ahead of my consumption just by checking every store I go into, that sells ammo, and buying it when I find it.

When I am on the road and stop for gas I check. If I see a sporting goods store nearby I check. Go into Cabelas or Gander Mountain for whatever and I check for .22.

A box or two here or there and I have kept the Marlin 795, Ruger 10-22, and Remington 12 spitting them out.

I only think I over paid once or twice.

Hopefully it will end soon.
