Online vs. Store Ammo

Online vs. Store Ammo

Postby Smoothoperator on Tue Apr 28, 2015 7:39 pm

Looking for a little insight into ammo purchases online.

Typically I've always purchased through Fleet Farm, but some of the prices online would save me about 5 to 10 cents per round. I shoot about 5000 rounds a year of 9mm/.40/.45 combined so the savings could be pretty good.

Wondering if anyone has a preferred online vendor and any feedback on your experience.

Also....anyone know if there is a limit on what you can buy in MN? Thinking of just getting 1000 of each caliber to start, I like to keep about 500-1000 on hand just based on availability etc...

p.s. I did search but didn't find much on the topic, sorry If I missed an earlier discussion!

http://sgammo.com usually has pretty competitive pricing, and they ship at reasonable rates.

Pay attention to your shipping. It can really change the outcome.

I can't believe it's been two hours and nobody has asked: You shoot 5000 rounds a year and you don't reload??

Palmetto's freight costs will kill any benefit of buying.

There are frequently some very good deals at Sportsmans Guide, and if you're in or near the Twin Cities, shipping is very, very fast.

I have have found this statement false on many occasions.

I also try to do larger buys not 100 here or a 100 there, but 1000 rounds minimum. My other strategy is to get groups of buddies together (who I trust to pay up) and we do big group buys, this makes the shipping very cheap.

That's also something I'm looking at, I called a few guys and already got to 10K rounds....
