.357 mag - 180gr bullets

Postby purd0027 on Tue Aug 25, 2015 8:56 pm

Anyone loading heavier than 158 gr bullets in .357 magnum? I bought a box of 500 Missouri Bullet 180 gr "Pugnose" projectiles. Just curious if anyone has load these in particular, or heavy bullets in general? I've got the Speer manual and there is data for a 170 gr. jacketed bullet, but nothing for 180gr lead.

I load Hornady 180 grain XTP's in 357Mag for deer hunting with my GP-100 Ruger, using a magnum primer to fire a max-loading (per book) of WIN 296. A hard-cast lead projectile could be substituted if properly lubed and gas-checked.

My standard loading is Hornady 140 grain XTP's with WIN 296.

Otherwise I shoot 38 Specials for fun and practice, loaded with WIN 231.
