Real answer for this thread:
"What's the point of this thread? Just tell the guy that it isn't a safe choice for that cartridge and that he will need to pick a different powder." If that doesn't work, show him the picture.
Why do you guys need to make reloading so dramatic?

Sam had the right idea on the answers.
Erud also had it right with a simple answer.
Sure wish more members had participated here, rather than sit back and criticize those who did answer.

If you want more answers, why do you want the thread locked before more people can provide them? You only started the thread 19 hours ago, and this isn't exactly a fast moving board to begin with...

Because in this case, drama apparently WAS required. Apparently the n00b wouldn't listen to Oldman in one of the reloading classes, and was dead set on using 296 for his 357, 44, and 45-70. The real kicker, which I'm sure you know but didn't elucidate, is that 296 is notorious for detonating when used in reduced loads, so if the n00b had used half a case full of 296 he eventually would have blown up ANYTHING but maybe a Ruger #1, and if he had filled up the case with 296 all the way to the bullet he would have blown up even a Ruger #1. As such, this is a real life story of a n00b absolutely set on trying something that was going to get him killed no mater what. At 6'8" and 350 lbs., I can only assume Oldman drop kicked this guy clean across the St. Croix when he was "ejected" from the class in Osceola.
Seismic Sam wrote:Either I wrote it wrong or you read it wrong. The guy was absolutely dead set on using 296 for all three cartridges, and wasn't listening to reason, so Oldman booted him. There was a fair amount of side talk going on between me and Oldman while this was going on.

I'm sure it was a real nail-biter. Since I didn't see anything on the news about a guy being killed in a horrible reloading accident, are my suspicions correct that he probably changed his mind? Or did your theory that he would rather kill himself than spend the extra $25 on another jug of powder play out?
You guys should call the TV networks and see if one of them will produce a reality show on all of these harrowing reloading experiences you always seem to be having. Come up with a catchy name, maybe something like "Reloading EMERGENCY!!!". One of you could drive around in an ambulance, and the other could follow in a Hearse to deal with all of the fatal noob-explosions that are constantly happening in this area. Heck, I'd watch it.
Just brainstorming here.
