Is Geco 7.62x39 brass any good?

Postby linksep on Mon Aug 22, 2016 11:15 pm

Quick search online and memory from recent FF visit, new x39 brass runs $0.40-$0.60 each. I see this Geco brand fully loaded ammo with boxer primed brass for $0.40 each, sounds like a win to me. For less than the price of naked brass it can be shot once before reloading... Unless the brass sucks bad for some reason?

I did a little reading and saw some reports on undersized flash-holes breaking decapping pins for 9mm but that's nearly the only negative thing I can find, most people seem happy with their loaded ammo and a couple people say it reloads "fine".

Anyone have experience with this stuff?

54 reads and nobody yet is willing to say it's good stuff. Got your answer yet??

I sort a lot of .223 brass, and the only headstamps I keep separately are Winchester, Federal, R-P, and Lake City. It's an uncommon brand and you don't come across a lot of fired cases. Comes out of Yurrup...

I have worked with GEICO 223 brass. It is a good brass, primer pocket is very tight. Only problem is not enough to worth setting aside. But, if you have several hundred I'd go with it.

Can't testify on it. When I come across it in .223, it gets tossed in "other" tote.

The only Geco ammo I've seen so far is 22LR. Wasn't aware anyone was importing anything else.

My thought was that I could buy loaded ammo (500 or 1,000) for the same price as naked brass, then save and reload the brass. I guess I'll have to buy just one or two boxes and take some up to visit Oldman for expert inspection and opinion.

I haven't dealt with any of the "Geco" brass, which is German. But I have dealt with some other German head stamped brass, in various calibers and it was excellent quality.

I've only seen a few 9mm cases. IIRC they were fine, but my sample size is very small, and not in the caliber being asked about, so...
