Yes, 10mm is about as good a reason to get into handloading as you will get. As far as "blasting ammo", be aware that specifically in 10mm, there is "blasting ammo" and then there is
"BLASTING AMMO!!!!" Some 10mm ammo is watered down crap that can be running no more than 50 FPS faster than 40 S&W loads, and the stuff from Corbon and Doubletap is TRUE 10mm ammo that can be over 300 FPS fater than 40 Short & Weak loads. The original design spec for the 40 S&W was a 180 grain bullet @ 980 FPS. With a max 10mm load, you can get that 180 grain bullet going 1300 FPS.
And I will repeat what I have said many times before: Getting straight into reloading with a progressive press is adding extra danger to your learning curve. When you load ammo with a single station press or a turret press, you do EACH step manually, and keep repeating the process until it becomes ingrained in your head and you know the whole process backwards and forwards. With a progressive press, you will have NOT intimately learned the process before you start cranking out hundreds of rounds quickly, and you simply CANNOT watch all 4 or 5 stations at once. With hot 10mm loads, you do NOT want to mess up!!
You can start out with a Lee manual for $25, get a single station press for FREE with the manual, and then get the Lee dies, Lee powder measure, beam scale, digital vernier caliper, Lee Autoprimer, a Speer #14 manual (which you need to read cover to cover BEFORE you touch anything else!!!), and you're in business. Then you need a can of Blue Dot powder, bullets, NEW cases, and large pistol primers, and you're in business.
Costwise, 10mm bullets are going for about 20 cents each, and with the primer and powder you're probably looking at 25 cents per round for REAL 10mm blasting ammo. That's $12.50 for a box of ammo, which is less than HALF of what you would pay for watered down crap IF you could even find it, and don't forget the added cost of gas money trying to find factory ammo. You load 15 boxes of ammo, and your reloading stuff is pretty much paid for. IF you become a 10mmaholic, THEN you can start thinking about a Dillon, MAYBE. I've been reloading for 38 years, and I will never go beyond a 6 station Lyman turret press, and I think I've got FIVE 10mm's in my gun safe.
Just remember, however:
