Remington Golden Saber???

What gives with Cabela's listing it as "discontinued"?

Gosh, I hope not. You and I were just discussing the efficacy of this round the other day.

I like it because it feeds like hard ball in a 1911.

I know. It's a wonderful round and my preferred carry ammo. Still finding it other locations though

Is that the one that was renamed and re-marketed as 'law enforcement use' to satisfy those who didn't feel non-law enforcement folks should use them?

I think it's been relabled as "Ultimate Home Defense", or other such nonsense.

I believe UHD is based on the Golden Saber, but is different in that it is specifically designed to not over-penetrate. It's for folks who actually like their neighbors. That's why I'll never by any UHD. 8-)

ADDED: Before I get my chops busted, yes, I know JHP ammo was also "designed to not over-penetrate". However, UHD was intended to be specifically marketed for use in the home.

The Golden Sabre is a bit of a problem in hicap EAA's, because with a full mag the serrated and folded hollowpoint can snag on the bottom of the feed ramp unless you regrind and countour it. The other very unique thing is that the Golden Sabre has a driving band like an artillery shell, meaning just a fraction of the bullet is engaging the lands, In all the 10mm GS's I shot the rear third of the bullet is .400" in diameter, and the front 2/3rds are a good 10 mils less, which means the barrel friction will be significantly reduced. Chronoed a few and got some pretty good results, and shot a full 50 with the chrono and the velocity increase was only about 30 - 40 FPS, which isn't much. As far as avilability and what it's called, the supply dried up on January 20th, 2009 and very few have been seen since. All the designations and other stuff reported sounds like anecdotal marketing hype and BS in light of the shortage of bullets in general. Nobody was saying anything like that about Golden Sabres while Bush was still President, and John-Boy had a full stock of them.

I won't say how many .45 cal Golden Sabres I have stashed in a 50cal ammo can.

Remington Golden Saber would be my #1 choice for a defensive round...if Federal HST, Speer Gold Dot, CORBON, and DoubleTap didn't exist.

Just got my regular email update from Natchez Shooters Supplies today.
Saw that they have the Golden Saber for 45ACP on sale now.

I have dealt with them a few times, and was always happy with their service.

i think you're referring to the winchester Black Talon ammo. lawyers had a field day with it in court. it was rebranded as Ranger Law Enforcement ammo and is just as availible.

+1 to the golden sabers also. feeds like a dream in all my plastic guns.
