Range ammo for Kahr PM9

Postby kschuyler on Mon Aug 01, 2011 8:00 pm

I just bought a used Kahr PM9 after a lot of research. The guy said it has 50 rounds through it. I know the gun is notorious for needing to be broken in due to tight tolerances. I am a NEW GUN OWNER. I expect to have many FTF's and that is probably why the guy sold it.

Can someone recommend an inexpensive cartridge for me to use so I can get a few hundred rounds through it.

I don't understand a lot of the lingo so please be specific. I have read about winchester white box?

Anyway any help is appreciated.

I use Winchester white box and Federal usually, whatever is cheaper. The Winchester white box 147 gr JHP is pretty inexpensive too, and feeds well.

RWS 124 grain. It's good, clean, accurate ammo, and as cheap as it gets. Full power too, so it won't cause a tight new gun to misfeed if not held perfectly.

Posting from DS so I can't google you sources.

Yup when I bought mine I feed it Winchester White Box and American Eagle 115gr or 124gr what ever was cheap. Just don't ride the slide when you rack it.

I used the federal gold medal and white box for my P9, they both shot fine I think only 1 ftf. I found the local wal mart had the best price on them.

Break it in with WWB. When its new and you load it lock the slide back and use the slide release.

I use my PM9 in classes that I have taken and ran either the cheap Federal or S&B, both worked. My standard carry is Corbon ammunition, it has never failed with the Corbon.

CCI Blazer is pretty good in 9mm too for range.
CCI primers never fail, they are clean, and they cycle smoothly. They are also cheap ! $$

never say never

I'll concur with all the above:

WWB (winchester white box, aka "cheapest winchester ammo you'll find on Walmart's shelves, so you can't miss it")
Blazer (comes in both brass cased ammo or aluminum. I find both function equally well in my guns. Aluminum cases are cheaper is all.)
Magtech ammo, comes in a blue box, cheap and good quality
Cheap federal
Remington

Basically if you can find a well known brand, like the above examples, you really can't go wrong. A Kahr ought to run common ammo as universally as anything else, or else I wouldn't trust my range trip or life with it. In fact, Kahr being accepted as a pretty solid brand, ought to run better than a lesser pistol...

So how did it shoot and what did you shoot in it for cheap range ammo?
