opinion on lights

Postby LarryFlew on Wed Jan 11, 2012 3:43 pm

Looking for some opinions especially from other than Lee guys. Have these lights made from bright LEDs and need some opinions of minor market. Don't plan on doing a lot of them since they are a little bit of a PITA but if they are worth somewhere in the $12 area plus shipping (or delivery to lunches, steel shoots etc) I would do a few. Can also be used vertically if your press has the room like the lock and load pictured.

No this isn't my original idea - I sell the transformers to the guy that makes the real thing for very good prices and in return I can make some of the lights. His go for over $25 plus shipping but have more than you need IMO like roller switches etc.

Pics show one lighting my Lee loader with no other light source in fairly dark basement. Another show the 6 light long version vs 6 light rectangle version. Both have 12 volt power supply with 6 feet of wire and double stick tape on the back. long one is about 3.5 inches (current LEDs that I have)

Question number 1 is of course would you buy one?
Question number 2 is which type works best on your reloader

I like the concept, nothing like being able to place the light exactly where you want it, zero desk footprint... Any provision in the design that would make it easy to run more than one light set on a single press from one wall wart?

I'd Paypal you $12 plus shipping for one of the "long" versions to mount on my press and provide some product feedback. :)

New LED's for the strip lights. These are enclosed with flexible clear silicone.

No opinions or is the lack of responses opinion enough? Pricing or just not something that works for you?

I like it. I've been using a small LED on a flexible gooseneck to look in .38 SPL cartriges prior to seating but it's a little too mobile to be ideal. I'm totally stealing your idea. $12 is a heckuva price, I'm pretty close to that even with making it myself.

I can't decide what one would work better on my Dillon press. Hell I'll take one of each. I can mail you a check or if you are coming to the match in Burnsville on Thursday I can pay you then.

TH3180, the rectangular ones are still the older style light while the long ones are the enclosed LED's. Can drop at your house on Tuesday if you want. Pay whenever even wait for 1st steel shoot if you want.

Needs an on/off switch so I can put it in my gun safe.

An on/off switch will cost about $3 and 2 minutes of your time to put it in.

You could get really fancy and rig it up with a motion sensor or a plunger switch like a fridge that kicks on when the safe door swings open. Otherwise a good old off the shelf power strip is a no-fuss way to do it.

I'm debating a trip to the mailbox in my delicate condition to go see if mine arrived today... change the source of cold up from the frozen peas. :)

More importantly longer light string would be better for safe light. Like making the string 2 feet long which would add $2 to the price.

In the interest of getting a few out there I would also do trades. Unique, Varget, Large pistol primers, 124 RN montana gold 9mm, or ??? I can pay the difference in value or ??

Deal with confidence, I'm going to be working on a quick review of mine with some additional photos but the short version is - it works really well, particularly for getting some light inside of the cases while they are on the press. Larry stands behind his work and quickly replaced a unit that turned out to have a problem. Low cost/high value, this is a simple concept executed well! If you are concerned about wires on your workbench it is just as easy to plug the light array into a power strip under your bench and simply run the light up through a 1/4" hole in the surface near your press.
