Tracer rounds?

Postby JeffD on Fri Mar 09, 2012 8:21 am

I was wondering if it is possible to hand load your own tracer rounds. I don't know if this is dangerous or just something that is not done. I did a little looking around and didn't find much info in this. Opinions are welcome, if I nuts let me know! I just thought it would be a something cool to do.

Thanks,
Jeff

There is this new product where u put a sticker on the back of the bullet when u load, it glows when u shoot, but it is a cold tracer round safe at ranges.

i don't see any reason it would be any different thatn loading any othere bullet... only thing i can think you'd want to pay attention to is your OAL as tracer bulelts tend to be longer than FMJ etc so there is room for the compound in theback. could mess with your recipie if yr not paying attention.

YMMV, IANAL, rememebr what you paid for this information. word.

Tracer projectiles are loaded all the time - trouble is finding good QUALITY tracer projectiles that are not inert due to poor storage after de-milling.
Also, a hotter burn powder is required to obtain a good burn which is sometimes enhanced by poking a small hole thru seal on back of bullet.
Have FUN, but be safe where you shoot them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Ironsight87, looks like they are focusing on pistol calibers at the moment.
