Price for reloads in 9mm

Postby gwilley1 on Sat Jun 23, 2012 10:30 pm

I went to the Duluth gun show today and saw a few reloaded 9mm hp either golden saber or xtp I believe. I passed on both for today. They were about $12-$15 per 50. Are those prices good, bad , about right or should I just pay the extra for new? Thanks guys

Price for reloads in 9mm

I'm reloading for ~$5.37 / 50 with range pickup brass. I'd suspect you can get new for $10-$14 / 50 if you look. Fleet farm had blazer for around $10

I'd pass on anyone's reloads but my own. Especially if they are selling for the same price as factory loads.

I'd pass on some unknown persons reloads. God knows what they put in it, how careful they were with double charges. I have guys I know and still won't shoot their reloads, shooting that I know nothing about is like playing Russian Roulette.

Reloads are like wives; it may be tempting to use someone elses but it can only cause problems in the long run.

Two of the guys selling "reloads" at the show are commercial reloading outfits, one is Roll Sizing Plus from South Mpls. The other place- Dans Ammo, I've seen him before but forget where he comes from.

He's correct. Sorry not just some guys actual company's selling reloads. I guess I should have been clearer. These are hollow points and I haven't seen them for that price new. I've been told don't shoot anyone else's reloads but someone must shoot them if they are selling them.

Sorry to have to crawl out from under my bridge, but that kind of thinking can get you hurt or killed. Just because someone else has shot some anonymous guy's reloads and lived doesn't prove ANYTHING. NOTHING. Nada!! Zip!! It just means that he hasn't screwed up bad enough yet to get somebody seriously hurt. Do you really want to buy a ticket in THAT kind of a Russian Roulette lottery? Assuming a guys sells 20 boxes of 50 rounds of something a show (1,000 rounds), that means that his error rate has to be less than 1 in 1,000. Say it's only 1 in 10,000, which sounds pretty good on the face of it. That means that one of his customers is going to get hurt in less than a year of him selling his stuff at shows. Are those odds that you would be willing to accept??

What is the start up cost for reloading? I know that's vague but what's the average for a set up for 9mm. I guess I will have to pick up a couple reloading books and start there.

Those seem to be good odds but I'm not very lucky so I would be the 1 customer that get hurt just trying to save 10 bucks a box of ammo. Thanks for the guidance guys.

Lyman #49 and Hornady #8 would be a good start. If you want to go really cheap and have time on your hands, you can get a Lee "Whack-a-mole" reloading kit for about $20. I got mine for $7.56, but that was 38 years ago....

"whack-a-mole" and ammunition don't sound like a good combo. Sounds like me missing bits and pieces in my basement.

Plenty of info out there on presses, and reloading stuff in books, and in various places on the net. Im not talking reloading data but info that people such as Sam can provide. Just gotta do some research on your part. Lets see, as for entry cost, the book is the first thing, then the press you choose. Cabelas has alot of stuff. Hit up their website to get an idea, and read reviews. Unless you frequent the cities, youll probably have to get stuff shipped to you. Start with that.

Going by this logic, no one should even trust factory ammo.
