question on reloading .223

So I recently got setup to load .223 on my 650. I processed about 3,000 pieces of brass over a weeks time. PITA compared to pistol, LOL! I started loading some plinking rnds with pulled powder and pulled bullets. Everything has worked great. I get home today and there is a little box with 1,000 60 gr hornady v-max bullets at my front door So my question is, what powder will give me the best accuracy out of my 20" AR barrel? What are some recipes you guys are using? I like alliant powder and that what i use in all the other 7 calibers I reload. Just looking for some advise, this is the first rifle caliber that I have reloaded. Thanks guys!

I like VARGET. Dont know where to start with a 60grainer I assume max will be around 25grs start low and work up.

I have been using 10x and AR-comp under 55g sp's and 69g SMK's with good results. No one powder will cover all your caliber needs.

cool. I use a couple different alliant powders. It would be nice to use only one. Lol

Ummm it ain't alliant but AA2230 would be my choice.

I've been using that new powder from Hodgdon CFE223. 26.4g under a 55g Hornady FMJ/BT. Out of a 16" brl. Great accuracy and smooth cycling. Like any reloading you'll just have to try some different stuff and figure out what works for your rifle.

I have tried a bunch of different powders. Made a number of different loads. Tested them. The best powder I have found for my rifle is accurate 2230. its great. And it meters very well.

AA2230 for the light pills (50-60gr), Varget for the heavy ones.(>60gr)

H322 for all that is <55 gr and RL15 for the rest

In case you haven't noticed, you will get a million different opinions on which powder to use and how much. try a few and see what works for you best in your specific rifle. If you want I could give you some 2230 powder. Enough to load a few dozen rounds to try out. Or if you buy it and don't like it... Powder usually sells quick on the board.

I went through 48lbs of 2230 in 2009 (took me a week) - worked well - that is about 14,000 rounds of 223.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I went to the wolfs den today to grab a hornady reloading manual and to see what powders it recommended. I ended up with a lb of RL10x. I wanted to buy some tac as well, but they were out. They said it was hard to come by now days. So I loaded up a few with 19.9 grns. And a few with 21.3 grns. Going to shoot tomorrow and see how it works

Update, all the rnds with the pulled powder(23 grs WC844) and pulled bullets shot great! The rnds with 21.3grs of 10x and a 60gr vmax shot well. About 1" groups at 100yds. Now the ones with 19.9 grs of 10x and a 60gr vmax shot extremely well. 1/2" or less at 100 yards. And either same hole or all touching! Very pleased with the results. Now I need my chronograph to see the speed

I'm relatively new to reloading and I am just wondering what the best way to pull rounds is.

The hammer type pullers couldn't be simpler or cheaper and as long as you aren't a pansy they work very well. (HIt them very hard on a concrete floor, I use the anvil portion of my vise.)
