Anyone looking for a LOT of 5.56 brass

Postby shooter115 on Thu Nov 08, 2012 4:07 pm

For those proud to call themselves a brass whore (me included), here's your chance to really stock up........ Or maybe the ultimate group buy. I'd be good for 400 lbs or so if someone else could use the other 14 tons

The opening bid is $150? OK... I'm in.

It's in Tennessee and read this. " GL will only load Flat Bed Trailer with tarp or removable sides. Mutilation Not Required. No further information is available. Preview and load out by appointment only." If you have a semi, you could do it.

I'd be willing to contribute $100 to the buy, donno how it would all work though.

Edit: Just read the post above mine :( anyone know of any truckers who own their own tractor and trailer who likes to reload?

Find a trucker and I will throw down on it for sure.
Wrap that around your overly muscled left wing and row your dinghy in counterclockwise circles as a result.

I'd be interested. 7.62 would be nice as well.

Better find a nice trucker! The cost of running a semi to tennessee and back isn't small at 4 mpg and $4 deisel.

Not to mention his time, miles and wear and tear on his equipment, etc. Tires alone are about $400 each for decent semi tires...

He'd also need free time, ie not getting paid by his full time job to do this.

If all those costs were covered, Id almost chime in, but im in the wrong state and we'd have to haul the brass in a 43 ft grain hopper trailer :). Well that and my wife would shoot me if i left her and our 7 day old daughter and went to tennessee.

I like the idea of using a hopper bottom. Dump in the brass, then top it off with tumbling media. 18 hours on the highway later and you have nice shiny brass. Just crank open the gates to dispense as needed. Multi-tasking at it's finest  Did I mention I have CDL???

28,000 pounds of brass in a cargo van aint gonna work. It would be hilarious to watch someone try though. I'm estimating here, but I think this would take up about 1500 sq. feet of space  Something like this comes to mind

I think ya mean cubic feet.
1500 sq feet is real easy, 5 reams of paper, a backpack. 1500 cubic feet is a challenge

1500 square feet is an area:

38' 9"x 38'9"/ 50' x 30', etc

1500 cubic feet could be those areas, 1' deep
or
11'6'x11'6"x11'6"

I just checked, the price for scrap yellow brass is $1.90 a pound.

I think this lot of 28,00 lbs is going to sell for a bit more than the $190 currently bid on it.

If it doesn't, you'll find me in Tennessee soon as I buy enough licensing for my truck!

More math.

IIRC, a LC 5.56 case weighs ~95 grains. At 28.000 lbs that would equal over 2 million cases.

That would keep us all in brass for a while. :D
