9mm load for any pistol

Postby hydraulicman on Fri Nov 30, 2012 11:36 pm

I want to load a 9mm luger cartridge that will work in any 9mm pistol . I was thinking a midrange load of powerpistol.
What are your thoughts on the matter? I know Im supposed to work up a load for every gun. In the interest of being practical i'd like to make a bunch of 9mm that works well in those tiny little 9mms like the khar cm9 up to my glock 19 or larger.

basically I'm looking for a factory type load that works

Ditto. It's the reason to load 9mm.

Working up loads for certain guns is about one of two things: best accuracy or max velocities. If you were required to load for "each" gun to be safe, factory ammo wouldn't exist. My advice is to find an upper mid-range load that is accurate, it will be safe, and should be able to cycle the action of anything you shoot.

I would find it very hard to believe there is any factory ammo that uses Power Pistol. Too loud, too flashy.

Think Bullseye or Unique.

Absolutely. Pick any normal jacketed bullet, load to an OAL that fits all of your guns, and it will probably fit everything.
I like WSF for powder in 9mm.
This is a nice bullet, http://www.precisiondelta.com/detail.ph ... -9-124-JHP

As the last two imply (NATO load and 124 JHP)but as a newby you probably didn't see it or get it 124 instead of 115 bullets for most are more accurate.

Should add that I worked up a load for one of my 9mm guns and the other 7 have to work with it.

9mm load for any pistol

I'd side with the group that says you should be able to have a 9mm load for all of your 9s. That's assuming you don't have any that are fussy with ammo.

Your OAL will be the issue. I like the Remington 124 factory load. If that works well for you, get 124 gr bullets and load them to the same OAL. Get them going about 1100 fps and you'll be golden.

I am working on this right now.

CCI Primers, 124gr Montana Gold JHP, a near max load of AA#7, and loaded very long. Works good in both my XD9 and X5 (Granted they are the same barrel length). Start low and work up. SS recently posted some good info on 9mm pressure signs. Read up!

I'm using federal primers and 124gr Ranier hp with AA#2. Works in both my 9mm.

I've been shooting the same 9mm load in my XD 4", XD 3", and Kahr 3" pistols for years. I'm using 115 gr Berry's plated round nose, 5 gr Unique, Win primers, and a 1.150" COAL. Brass is mixed head stamp.

Velocities:
XD 4" -- 1152 FPS
Kahr 3" -- 1017 FPS

Work up your loads carefully, as you do for any hand load.

For comparison, using the same chrono on 115 gr Winchester white box loads:
XD 4" -- 1202 FPS
Kahr 3" -- 1067 FPS
