H-110 Powder

Postby BigDog58 on Thu Jan 31, 2013 3:52 pm

I'm getting two pounds of H-110 Powder through a trade but I'm not sure I can utilize it? From what literature and "RTFM" that I can find, it is designed to use in Magnum Pistol Loads primarily. I currently only load 9 mm, 38 Spcl and 45 ACP in pistol loads. My 44 Mag Super Redhawk was Stolen three years ago after my house fire.

So, does anyone have a recommendation for using the H-110 in my calibers?

Thank all of you, this has become my new forum home. I plan to be at next Wed. Lunch and hope to actually meet a few of you.

You need to get a 300 Blackout, then you'd be set.

I use Win296 (H110) for .357 Magnum

Original use was for the M-1 Carbine, I believe. There are pistols in that caliber as well. Lot of surplus around (used to be, until December)

It's garbage. I'll come over and pick it up, and take care of disposal.Y

More seriously, you ARE 100% right that H110 or 296 isn't good for 45 ACP or 9mm reloading, and I can't find any references to it in my current manuals. Plus H110 has the nasty and well earned repuation of being able to detonate with some reduced loads, so that makes it downright suicidal to try messing around with that stuff in cartridges it's not designed for.

Oh, and from a historical perspective, H110 was specifically designed for the 30 M1 cartridge during WWII, so its original use was to pretty much fill the case all the way up, and then smoosh the bullet down on top of it...

I like it in 44 mag. I would be interested if you can't use it.

Well, after I finish loading the 2000 rounds of 30 Carbine for my buddy, I believe I'll still have some left. I currently have 2.5 lbs. of Lil-Gun that I began loading with and after I finish that I'll open the H110. If I end up Not needing it, I'll gladly trade someone for something I can use.

BTW: Today was my Lucky Day. A guy that has10,000 SPP's called me to offer to sell me some, from an ad I had on Armslist. He got in a Backorder shipment from Powder Valley today, right after Paying $350 for 5000 on Gunbroker. Now, he's trying to recoup the $70 a box for the CCI's he overpaid for. That's NOT my Luck.

I've had a set of 9 mm Lee Dies (Deluxe 4 Die Set) on Backorder for three weeks now, with No projected delivery date. When I mentioned this to Charlie (the guy) he said he has a nearly new set he never uses and is selling them to me tomorrow for a great price. Charlie is Super Friendly and if anyone knows someone desperately needing SPP I can give them his contact info. They will have to pay the $70 per 1000 but 5000 are available. Something Finally, went right for me... :D

I have a pet load for Ruger SRH. 7" Bbl. 292gr.HLRFN GC. May be too hot for S&W however. Are you loading this bullet? You need deep crimp into projectile.

I'm going to utilize it to load 30-Carbine and .357 Mag for a good buddy. It ended up working out good.
