22lr ammo shortage

Postby Strativarius on Fri Apr 12, 2013 4:48 pm

I know this must be old news for a lot of you, but is there anywhere in the metro area that actually has any 22lr? No luck at any Fleet Farms, Wallyworld, not even Joes. I've haven't been shooting much, and been using old ammo when I do, so I didn't realize the situation.

Anyone seen anything lately?
If not, does anyone know when Fleet Farm gets in shipments? I'm strictly looking for 22.
Thanks for any advice. And good luck on your own hunt!

Cabela's had some with lead bullets, mail order $17,49 for a box of 50, limit of one.

Seriously.

I threw up a little in my mouth when I did it, but I finally got sick of finding next to nothing and I ordered 500 rounds of match for .30/rnd just to take my wife shooting so she can enjoy her first time at the range.

Owatonna Cabalas none this afternoon. They put some out every morning is what Cabalas Rogers hinted at yesterday, none. Fleet farm Owatonna none. Sheels (both locations) none. All-in the last 24 hours.

Unless your willing to pay 30¢ to 50¢ a round on higher grade match ammo your out of luck. The cheaper plinking ammo gets picked off the shelves as quickly as it's put out.
I will never apologize for being an American.

So in this market what's acceptable to pay for cheap plinking rounds? 50$ for 500?

What stinks for me was 8 months ago I sold off 12 boxes of the 333 round winchester .22 bulk packs that were normally $12 each (yes that's 4000 rounds). I only shoot CCI now so I sold them to some coworkers for a small discount. I could have made a tidy profit if I still had them (or I'd be hoarding them greedily). Oh well, live and learn I guess.

If you could find someone today that would part with cheap bulk .22 ammo normally priced .03 a round for .10 cents a round you'd be doing pretty good I'd think.
For good CCI ammo that's normally .07 a round I'd bet it would be .15 or .20 a round.

22 update:

Gander truck day is Thurs.
Fleet cannot divulge info on incoming ammo
Walmart has it, according to shooters at BPR
Gander has it stockpiled for purchasers of 22 firearms, no retail shelf products.
On G-broker, it's 80$ with shipping.....and sells fast!

Remember the old days?

Your typical military mortar rocket motor box full of cheapo 22 plinking ammo!

NO DROOLING!
Can you imagine waiting until 2014 to buy 22 ammo at the "new" price after they TAX it to restrict school shootings? $80 a brick is a steal on G-broker!

This is one of the better deals you'll find on Gunbroker, 525 rounds of Federal 22lr for $65. The guy is in Maple Lake so you might not even have to pay shipping.

For being such a shortage there was no shortage of 22 being flung down the range at BV yesterday. I think everyone in the north bay was shooting a 22 at some point while we were there.
