Brass Needed To Help WasFuzz

Postby BigDog58 on Mon Jul 01, 2013 4:07 am

Hi, all I am helping wasfuzz get together a packet of brass for demonstration of the different calibers and types of cases available out there. I am posting a current list of what he has and if you have ANYTHING different and are willing to contribute One Case, it would be greatly appreciated. It is preferred that it is deprimed (but I can do it if necessary) and then I'm going to wet tumble to get it all nice and shiny, then I'm going to tumble is a polish to help it to prevent from tarnishing as fast (also giving him a pair of thin cotton gloves to handle brass with.)
Here's what we have so far. I'll be at the First Wed Lunch, this week if you could come and drop off any different calibers it will be helpful

Send me a pm where to send the casings. I have 10mm, 5.7x28, 35 Remington, 357 Sig and if I look hard enough I may be able to find a 25 ACP. I am also going to the range possibly Wed or Thursday and can make it so I have a 22 Mag and 22 Winchester rim fire (this is in between a 22 LR and 22 Mag). What kind of demonstration is he doing? Just curious nothing more. How Many?

I have a 32 auto, 357 sig, and a 5.7 x 25. I can give them to you when we meet up for the 9mm brass you want from me.

I have the 32 auto but the rest will be great. This collection/display is going to be totally awesome, thanks to everyone's help. The best part for me, is I am wet tumbling it to clean it all and then tumbling in corn cob and polish to help slow the tarnishing, and I get to see and handle brass that I have never seen before, and quite possibly won't see again (after he completes the display).

I do have one request. Anyone donating the brass: If at all possible, please deprime it. I am wet tumbling and if the primers are still in, I am concerned it will hold the moisture and cause corrosion. I have a Universal Depriming die, but I don't have all the necessart shell holders. Especially for the unique cases. I have some steel Berdan primed cases that I hope I sucessfully got all the moisture out by using a heat gun. I can't get the primers out, but they are at least clean.

Let me know when we can get together for the 9mm brass and I'll get the donated at the same time.

Thanks again,

Jim

To get the berdan primers out, or any of them, actually, an old trick-

Fill the case mostly full of water, put it on a board with a hole drilled where the primer is, and take a piece of dowel rod that is about the bullet diameter in the mouth of the case. Make sure the dowel is long enough that it will not get lost in the case... Give the dowel a sharp rap with a hammer and the primer should pop out. (hydrostatic force)

They won't be resized at all, but for what you are using them for, that won't matter.

Thanks, I did see a YouTube video where the guy did it similar using his press and a broken decap pin, using hydraulic pressure. I am goung to leave that to wasfuzz because it's a lot involved and hard for me to get around and cleaning up the mess. If we only had Berdan primers I highly doubt I'd be reloading :bolt:

The only odd brass I have is .284 Win. If someone's around New Ulm or Mankato and going up I can give one up.

Can't you just hook a spent berdan primer from the back side (pierce it with a dental pick, etc..) and pull/slightly pry it straight out? Unless the berdan primed RG and Paki 7.62 NATO brass cases I was playing with had exceptionally loose primer pockets it was a really easy operation.

If no one is coming this way, I can always pm my address and you could mail it in an envelope, if you wouldn't mind.

Thank you.

Or, I might be heading down to the Scheels in Mankato in a few weeks, if they get the powder or primers I'm hoping they get.

Hi all, I want to thank everyone that is donating brass to help wasfuzz with his display. It is going to be one I am truly envious of. I am posting this from my Nook and tomorrow when I get on my laptop and can copy and paste, I will update the list as to what we currently have.

It really means a lot to see everyone step forward to help another member here. It doesn't matter whether we know each other personally or not. I know I am still a noob here, but seeing all the great members here and how most step forward to help when we can, is what makes this one of the best forums I have ever had the good fortune to be a member of. It demonstrates just how great the shooting community is.

I hope each of you have a Happy Independence Day. Have fun and please be safe,
