Father in law passed. Need to get rid of reloads

Postby Kelor on Tue Aug 13, 2013 8:26 pm

My FIL reloaded shotgun shells for fun. Lots and lots of them. He has since passed away.

What do I have my MIL do with all of it?

Sell them as components, not ammo. What kind of volume are we talking here? Lots and lots could mean 100 to one guy and 5000 to another.

if you trusted the guy and he knew what he was doing, just shoot em up. most guys toss a label on their reloads so you should be able to tell the hunting loads from the trap loads.

also.. if he was an old timer.. some of the old shotgun shell boxes are worth money. some of the old holiday boxes without the shells are 25$ (in good shape). just an FYI if you didn't know

Most LE agencies will take and dispose of them for you.

Although if really large quantities, you might have more luck by picking one of the three agencies in the state with a Bomb Squad (St. Paul, Bloomington, or Crow Wing County Sheriff). A significant part of what they do is disposing of surplus, damaged, obsolete, or dangerous ammunition.

In the end it ends up with one of those three, typically at Camp Ripley in a big hole and EOD burn.

Pick me! I will handle them in a safe manner to ensure the components are disassembled and uused/disposed of properly! I love loading shotgun shells!

Sometimes it's a LOT of ammo. Plus confiscated fireworks. They're usually a significant component.

No offense but such a waste...

I'd put it on the several thousand round level. I think we are going to convince my MIL to give them all away to a few friends.
