PBR Ammo

Anyone have any experience with PBR Ammo's customer supplied brass program?

https://www.pbrammo.com/catalog/customer-brass-program

How is the quality and turnaround? Would you use for a USPSA match or reserve for practice?

PBR Ammo

Postby Snowgun on Mon Sep 02, 2013 3:04 pm

Yes, they are my secret spot and awesome!

I used to send all my.45 brass using usps flat rate post (~$13), sending bout 2500 cases, and get perfect 170 power factor fmj back, at roughly $14.50 per 50 rounds, shipped.

Also never had an issue with the ammo, over bout 7000 rounds.

I reload now so i dont use them any more, but my dad does.

Looks like they will load about anything you want but yes, I'm interested in the gamer ammo. I need that gentle, barely perceptible mouse fart load so I can shoot Mikes with without any muzzle rise.

Bemidji, "gamer ammo" is ammo downloaded to minimum power factor for the shooting games. This is how Snowgun places so high ;)

Thanks for explaining the term "game ammo". I load ammo for a couple local associates that shoot matches and they have it loaded to a minimum power factor. The first time I loaded it I couldn't understand why they wanted it loaded below some of the "min" loads and they explained "power factor" to me. But, I never knew why they called it "gamer ammo".

Thanks again

When loading these with certain powders and a lower than recommended reduced loads are you not concerned with surface dentition that can spike a chamber pressure because of a surface burn?

I took it and thoroughly tested it with my chrono and watched the cases and primers extensively for any signs of pressure spikes. The min loads weren't far below mostppublished loads that I could find. I also emailed the powder mfg about my concerns. They indicated that the loads I was using would be fine, and also gave me suggestions of shortening my COL to reduce the empty spacing inside the cases. The ammo shot quite consistent velocity and zero signs of excess pressure.

Therefore the concern, empty space....

BAH!! I don't need no steenkeeng minimum power factor!! I just shoot 100 rounds one handed with my Smith 500, and then ANY 9mm/40/45 load IS a mouse fart!!

After shooting, I like to kick back with a full case of cold PBR and a full rack or roasted reloading n00b ribs!!!

There actually is some truth to this, as back when I was regulary shooting my DE50 once a week one handed with a full 100 rounds at Oakdale, I happened to shoot my Series 70 Gold Cup Match, and a guy asked me what I was shooting. ???? :? :? Uhhh, a Colt 45 Automatic??

"So how come the muzzle wasn't going up at all when you were shooting?? I shot a 45 in the service and it kicked like a mule!!!"

I will admit the first few shots were so mild that it made me giggle, and I totally missed the target. Don't shoot ANY 50 caliber or magnum pistol and then transition directly to being a gamer.

For general info on powerfactor and gamer ammo:

If you are loading to a power factor floor, it will still be high enough that you typically won't be in that theoretical danger zone of "detonation". Most people use heavy bullets and fluffy fast powder as well so empty space is not much of a concern.

Powerfactor = (Bullet weight X FPS)/1000

I shoot 135g 9mm bullets at about 950 fps. This gives me a power factor of about 128.

Minimums for action pistol are typically 125 for "minor" (9mm and the like) and 165 for "major" (.40 and above).

Factory ammo can come in pretty hot in comparison, like 9mm white box can come in at 145, and some 45acp factor loads roll in at 190.

Yes, making gamer ammo helps with recoil and such, but it really helps keep you from damaging your hands when shooting 5000 rounds of .45 per year, especially when you are shooting 25 rounds or so under 20 seconds at a time. ;)
