Coated Cast Bullets??

Postby Sigfan220 on Sat Nov 30, 2013 1:16 pm

Has anybody tried these coated cast bullets? With the price of jacketed bullets these may be an option. It seams like plated bullets are about as much as jacketed these days.

I have not tried either of those companies. For my 1911 and 2011 the only bullets I use are http://www.blackbulletsinternational.com

I ordered a sample pack from Bayou Bullets a month ago. They worked great; no leading, no smoke, no dirty fingers.

The only draw back is that they smell a little funny when shooting.

The difference in cost is pretty slight when comparing to the plated bullets I order from Rocky Mountain Reloading, especially since RMR includes shipping in the price.

I think I will switch to the Bayou Bullets for .45 because I like their SWC better than Berry's or Rainer.

A friend got their coating stuff from them and coated his own bullets. He lent me some that I used in a match. Liked the low-smoke so much that I ordered some bullets last Wednesday.

I've also shot thousands of the coated bullets from 'blackbullets'.
Very nice, no smoke, accurate as anything. I've been shooting plain lead lately, though, and also will try to coat my own.

I've been aware if the black bullets for a while but don't have much interest in them. I'll check our rmr but all the other plated prices I have seen are on par with jacketed

Been shooting Precision Bullets out of Kemp Texas for some time for my 1911s. Spot on accurate. 200gr. bullets when weighed on my scale measure at 200gr.
Great bullets for 50yd shooting because of their quality.
I've shot some amazing groups with these bullets while shooting my Range Officer and my Kimber Custom Target II at 25yds.
I have quite a few remaining from my last order, but plan to order another thousand before spring.

Precision mentioned by Eric : http://www.precisionbullets.com/

I've used Precision's as well as Bear Creek(no web page and doesn't seem to be answering their phone - not that I'm bitter). Both have been excellent. No lead fouling, no smoke, and you can usually knock a 10th of a grain or 2 off your load. In the past they've been a couple bucks more than hardcast and for the reduced cleaning it's worth it to me.

I also have been interested in the coated lead bullets. After reading a lot about them, I think that the most interesting part is the do it yourself method of using a powder coating gun and baking them in the oven. Just no time to try it right now.

I've seen more and more folk using the bayoubullets at matches. I called Donnie and placed an order for a case each of 124 gr and 230 gr to try out. He was originally out 6 weeks for shipping but when I called to place me order last Weds he said he'd have them in the mail by Mon or Tues of THIS WEEK!

I, too, ordered some last Wednesday. They came, today! :D
I plan on using them in tomorrow night's match, so if anyone wants to see then, come and ask for me.

Let me know how well they work. If everything looks good I may try a few.

Here are some of my powder coated bullets, 200 gr. RNFP.
Dry tumbled in my small drum tumbler, 1/2 tps. powder.
Baked at 400 degrees for 20 min.

I couldn't be happier. Almost like shooting jacketed/plated bullets. Almost no smoke. I'll be ordering more from them when these are gone.
