First batches of polished brass

Postby brad3579 on Sat Sep 06, 2014 1:51 pm

Finished tumbling 5000 .40 brass with my used but new to me tumbler. Ten pounds of corn cob media and about 1700 pieces per load.
Seemed to work pretty good and I am liking the results.

Thanks
It is a Mirro Brite commercial machine (price was right, free :D ).

I had some Lyman treated and some Lyman untreated (what they had at FF) and added some Dillon polish.

Nice!

The corn cob media looks kinda... dark. Is that what the Lyman media looks like when new, or did it get that way after polishing the 5000 cases?

Do your self a favor, never use treated (red) crushed walnut media. It will take all day and then some to get the gunk off. If you want you can get untreated walnut from a pet store as "ferret bedding" it is cheap and add a little Lyman/or other polishing media. It seems to last forever. Even dark corn cob will still make very shiny brass. I have some that I have run a couple thousand (I do small batches) mixed cases through it. just add a little polishing media from time to time. You can get some small mesh bags for different calibers so that the cases don't "make love" I have run 357, 40, and 45 all at the same time with no problems. The mesh bags are easy to get at the grocery store.
