Found some 22 on Black Friday...

Postby greenfarmer on Mon Dec 01, 2014 8:04 am

Went to Dunhams in Hutchinson on Thursday night. They opened at 6, and actually had a pretty good line up outside. LOL, and most of the people that were in line ran straight to the gun department. They had a carbon 15 on sale for 549, plus a 50 dollar mail in rebate. And most of the people ran straight to the gun counter for that. People with permit to purchase, people who didn't have a permit to purchase, and had to put it on layaway so they could get their permit, and even a kid who was under the age of 21 tried to buy one. His father was trying to buy one as well, and he didn't have a permit. Tried to argue it. But had to put the gun on layaway...

Well, I got the deal of the week there... Bought the two Remington Bucket of bullets they had their... 69.99 each... 1400 in the bucket... All of those suckers were there for the carbon 15... And they totally missed out on the real deal!

The sunday before thanksgiving I picked up a cute little Remington 572 fieldmaster 22 pump.. For a whopping 70 bucks, and in really nice shape. So now my daughter will have to get used to the iron sights. She shoots that 10/22 with a scope on it really good... But it's now time to shoot those irons.. And I have a good amount of ammo for her to get started with now.

Glad you found .22, but if 69.99 for a bucket of golden bullets is now the real deal... Ouch!

That's like 2.5 cents a bullet. So that is about the norm now for 22 ammo.

Unless my math is wrong, that's actually 5¢ per bullet. Still not bad, considering a lot of places are closer to 10¢/bullet - and that's IF you can find it.

Showing my work:

$69.99 (let's round it $70 for ease of calculation....) / 1400 bullets

So, 70 / 1400 =

factor for common denominators...
70 = 7*10 and 1400 = 140*10, so ...
7 / 140
AND
14 = 7*2, so...
1 / 20 = 0.05, or 5¢

It may be. I just call it common sense - I won't say I've always done it this way, but 35 years ago I had a high school math teacher who taught "shortcuts" like this.

Back on topic, if I can find 22LR for $0.05 I'll add it to the ammo fort.

Wife and I (didn't think we could use the 5 yr old for one-per-customer :D ) each got a Federal 525 bulk pack for $20 (plus tax)

my quick math.

1050 ~ 1000 rounds

40/1000 -> (40*100)/1000 -> 4000/1000 -> 4/1 = 4¢/round

therefore 1050 rounds ~ 4¢/round with taxes

Ok, here is my math. The Rem golden bullet (same as is in the bucket) is my go to for cheap plinking. I have purchased in the last month from Fleet Farm 2 525 packs. Now they are still rare to run into but it happens. FF's price if I recall my last transaction was $21.99.

So I guess 4 cents per round is more what I am finding it for not 5.

Yeah, it's not exactly a steal by the 3 years ago standards. But by today, if I can pay .04-.06/round, and actually find it, I'll buy it. I've saw the 50 round boxes there for 2.99, but never any bulk. I still have one of those brown slide top plastic containers from coast to coast that dad bought many many moons ago, and it says 1.29 on it. Sure wish I could find that now!

It's a thin line between numerator and denominator.

Yep, I went out on Turkey day to Dick's in C.R. at 5PM ONLY because they had a Black Friday special of Rem Golden 525 box OR Federal 525 box for $19.99, limit one. I walked in at 5:03, went back to the gun counter which already had 20 guys surrounding it and after some confusion about WHERE the .22 ammo was, saw that it was displayed in the gun case and had to ask the clerk for a box. He hands me an index card with a bar code sticker and tells me they are up front at the cash registers. I got a box of the Remington 525 with close to what was the last index card. WooHoo! Score! It's been a LONG while since I've found ANY type of bulk .22 at those kinds of prices! Got my one box and immediately walked out as I had NO interest in any of the firearm deals they had going on.

The worst part is.... How many of those do you think end up on armslist or gunbroker for around 45+ for one of those bricks? I know I saw some of those buckets that I just bought at some gun shows for 150+ over the past year and a half.

My local shop in the west metro had a pile of federal target 325 packs for a few days at $19. I have a good pile at home yet but you just dont know when you will find it again.
