Looking for Rubber Buckshot

Postby foxx11 on Mon Dec 15, 2014 7:34 pm

Does any know where to buy Rubber Buckshot balls, I would like to make up some 410 reloads to have on hand.
Some days I would rather scare off the critters instead of killing them. If they are not doing damage then I prefer to encourage them to move on.
If they do damage then I will encourage them to move up into the plane of existence.

Has anyone had experience in reloading rubble ball shot shells???

I don't know where to get any of the rubber buckshot either. As such devices can be lethal to humans, which are bigger than most critters, it may not be all that much different than using normal ammunition.

For the same purpose I use a cheap BB gun. The one I use is a single pump and throws a BB out at maybe 300 fps. On a sunny day I can see the BB travel through the air by the sun's reflection off it. Smack a raccoon, woodchuck, possum, neighbor's dog, etc with it an it hurts enough to get a squack out of it.

Knock off the sights and it makes a good tool for learning instinctive shooting. Shooting mud dauber wasps and grasshoppers is a lot of fun. It really helped me hit moving targets with a shotgun.

I have used a Crossman pelet pistol for years for this purpose. A few pumps to discourage, and max load to permanently discourage.

Use the subsonic 22 lever with laser sight, even (the 410) with light loads a varment might be wonded or maimed.

Not that I am in favor of harming our cute little furry friends!

Not sure if they still make rock salt for shotguns but this will get there attention. The gift that keeps on giving (until it wears off). I use a BB rifle too for the critters when I don't feel like using the 12 gauge O/O.

You want a BB gun. Rubber shot may not be lead, but it's still getting sent on its way with an ignited propellant. It's serious medicine. If you're gonna shoot a critter with something like that, kill it already. If you just wanna swat it in the ass, a 300fps BB is a plenty good message.

We carry the Lightfield 410 rubber buckshot. Looks like it runs 11.95 for a five pack

Yep, somebody had to try it. I wonder if it bounces around in your house like a superball?

You got me wondering how airsoft pellets would work if used...

On a related note, I remember my dad telling me about some gentleman, back in the day, who loaded shells with peppercorns.

Well at least it would be well seasoned.

Thanks for all the reply's, I figured I would use a very low charged to make it sting.

This place has a lot of unconventional loads.

I do have some Speer Blue Shotshell Capsule to make .38 Special bird shot. I could fill them up with plastic or rubbers balls, but I do not change
load components without a tested and proven recipe.

It appears as though I've found my "Dragon's Breath". Shot up a handful of those a couple summers ago. i spent more time putting out grassfires than shooting. been wanting more ever since.
