I wonder if this is going to spread to the other GMs (Rochester for me). It would be nice to have another place to not find what I'm looking for.

I was at the Woodbury store with a coworker who's wife works at GM corporate. I complained maybe they listened. I doubt it.

For some of the stores it comes down to local fire marshall/city code. I am pretty sure that is the case with the Eden Prairie store.

Prices sound a little steep, but at least it's one more place carrying the stuff. I suppose they kind of had to start carrying it in order to stay competitive with Cabela's having moved in so close. Every time I see primers like that, though, I think "who buys them only 100 at a time?"

GM stores used to carry reloading supplies then for whatever reason got out of it about 10-15 years ago. I went into the St. Cloud store right when they put all their stock on clearance and bought a ton of stuff dirt cheap.

Which competitors will they match prices with, though? I presume not Powder Valley or Midsouth. (Both of them list Titegroup at $15.80 for a 1-pound can, for example, and I don't imagine GM would be too keen on chopping the price by almost 40%.)

I wouldn't think so. Probably like Fleet Farm and Cabelas. But feel free to take a road trip to Tennesee or Kansas to buy from those guys, or pay their Haz-Mat fee.
I'm not saying GM is cheap. I'm not even saying they're average. (Although I think for local... They're close) I know Gouger Mountain has a reputation for being overpriced, and some people have a bad taste in their mouth just saying their name. For those people, feel free not to shop there... I'm just happy there's another local place to find powder at, and I would think that there are others reading this that are happy too.

I currently have a sizeable powder order with Midsouth that's been backordered for 14 months and hazmat is a problem. I'd still rather shop fleet farm for reloading supplies if I didn't have time to order online or have the quantity to justify it.

I know a friend was told on guns they would only price match a local store and that store had to have it in stock. So in other terms just buy it at the other store.

So are these supplies locked up? And if so how do you know what's in there? Or does it just have a door for some kind of fire code.

The powder storage in Lakeville was in a cabinet, only way to know what's in it is to ask somebody to open it. I bought some red dot a couple years ago but their reloading was pretty minimal.

The picture I took in the first post was of an unlocked cabinet, in a standard aisle. Anyone can open it at any time. That is another customer standing on the left side of the picture. I didn't ask to open it, just did.

It's possible they have another cabinet in the back made of steel for more supplies. I thought they were supposed to be stored in a steel cabinet....? I'm pretty sure this one was wood. Maybe I'll ask next time I'm there.

Oh, don't get me wrong; I'm happy about another local supplier, too. That should mean better availability, at least. Hopefully, as supply comes back to sane levels, pricing will as well. It certainly doesn't have to get all the way down to PV or MS pricing for me to buy it, but $25/pound for Titegroup is more than I'm willing to spend unless I'm completely out of powder and need to load some ammo right this instant.
