My father and I went out to visit OldmanFCSA and Murphy (his dog) on Saturday to learn the basics of reloading and get some hands-on. We had a helluva good time and learned quite a bit in the 4-5 hours we spent there, I can't thank him enough for providing this service, it really was a great experience!! It's really great to have somebody like him in our community willing to do this. I was happy he was able to accommodate training us both, we both got some hands-on and he answered all our questions and questioned us a bit as well to make sure we understood. I'm glad I got to share this experience with my father.
If anybody is looking to get into reloading, I definitely recommend you take him up on his offer and get in there and learn, you won't be disappointed. He really did a wonderful job of explaining each step and what was happening during those steps and some of the pros/cons of different equipment, it really helped me get a feel for it and I'm looking at picking a RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme single stage press this week. I was going to pick up a Dillon 550B but after seeing all that's involved and with OldmanFCSA's recommendation to start on a single stage until you're comfortable with the process for safety reasons, I decided to go with the single stage. I will say I was a bit nervous about getting into reloading because you're essentially working with explosives but after learning the process with OldmanFCSA and doing it in a safe way I'm ready to begin my own reloading journey.
He is a very friendly guy (as is Murphy) and a great teacher and made us feel welcome and comfortable. I was extremely impressed with his setup and his toys!
We learned how to and actually loaded 9mm, .223, and .308. We learned on Lee (unsure of specific model), a RCBS Rock Chucker, and he even gave us an introduction to the Dillon 550B and let me load a couple under his careful supervision.
Take the plunge and learn from a seasoned vet, it was phenomenal! Thanks again OldmanFCSA!!
