help finding old press parts

Postby shovelheadmike on Thu Mar 26, 2015 10:15 am

I have a hornady progressive press that I bought new in 1990 and have used it to load......well, I wish I knew HOW many rounds I've loaded, but it has worked great and still does. I would like to replace the brass kicker arm, this one is the original and I feel it can and will break someday.I called hornady and they don't stock these anymore, not that it would shut me down as I could just remove the finished round, but would like to have a spare just in case.Anyone know of a place I could check for this part? If not I have some friends that could maybe fab one up for me,but it would be a lot easier to just buy one.

Hornady will swap a new lock and load progressive press for my press plus $200.00. Something to think about I guess.

Thanks,
Mike

Depending on how much you could sell your existing press for, that may or may not be a good deal. Just for reference, a new L-n-L AP is approximately $400 from most of the online vendors, so Hornady is basically offering you $200 in trade.

I really don't want to get rid of this press, nothing really wrong with it besides that brass kicker, and that seems to be the "weak link" if you want to call it that, hell,Its lasted this long,I figure if I could find a new one,I'd be good to go for another 25 years! I have been thinking of getting another press for 9mm,38's and leaving this one set up for just 45 acp. I don't know anyone with the L-n-P AP 'but it looks like a slick set up for quick change outs of calibers.
Thanks

It's actually the press I have, and it doesn't just look slick, it is slick. :)

Do you know what the part number is? Midway has some cartridge ejectors that people are complaining doesn't fit - maybe it's for yours?

These are the LNL press prior to the ez eject system. They will not work with his press.

ShovelHeadMike, I recently bought a 650 and have been looking for a good home for my LNL, maybe we could work something out if you are interested.

I'm a pretty die hard Dillon guy, but for $200, I'd probably just go for the upgrade to the L&L. Or just use it until it actually breaks. Guessing you'll get the same deal down the road.

I really want to keep this press, maybe give it to my son,he used to sit on my lap when he was 5-6 and hand me brass, that was 20 years ago and he still remembers us doing that.
thanks,

There's a guy on castboolits.com selling a projector and a ton of spare parts. He's asking $225 plus shipping, but there's enough stuff there to keep your's running another 30 yrs.
I had 2 projectors, one for large primers and one for small, changing primers always took a lot of tuning. I ended up stealing parts off of one to keep the other one running. So I took Hornady up on the trade in, the LNL is incredible compared to the projector which blew away the pro-7. I still use what's left of the other one along with some modified Lee stuff to quickly decap dirty brass before tumbling.

Just a follow up on this,as much as I wanted to keep my old press,I did the exchange with Hornady, sent in my old press and all my shell plates and primer tubes.Shell plates were $10.00 each plus the $200.00 for the new press,I think it's a good deal.I'm not a big fan of filling the "new" primer tube, first time I tried filling it [large pistol],I thought I had the wrong tube. The plastic piece is real tight and I had to really push to pick up a primer, not good. I had to modify it a bit,but now its smooth as silk. I am having a little problem with the crimp die,but I'll start a new thread on that.

Well....thanks.....I hate to part with a tool that has served me well and is stood up to many hours of faithful service. That press was still kicking out round after round, never missing a beat. The ONLY thing that ever broke on it,was decapping pins once in a while.
I should have kept it......

Hornady upgrades have always been well worth the cost.
Never cared about the case ejector--just as easy to flip the cartridge off as I went to slide a case into the shell plate and place a bullet on the charged case--it is possible to do something manually and still not waster any time.
