Where is the cheapest store to buy lead shot? Looking to buy in the metro or central Minnesota, going to need 3-4 25lb bags of #8 shot for shooting clays.

Good luck. Few places have it for long and the price seems to be around $45 a bag these days :( You can always find it at Fleet Farm for something like $53 a bag though. I've got 3 bags at the moment to get me through the year that I bought at $40 a few months ago. If I see it that cheap again I will buy a few more but having my doubts.

You may want to try Metro Gun Club in Blaine. I believe they sell recovered shot from the range. Perhaps an option... :cogitating:

Depends what it is. There are different grades of reclaimed shot. Has it been washed and graphited?

anybody local carry graphite and washed reclaimed lead shot? shipping kills any hope of saving money.

Basically just what it says. You can buy reclaimed lead shot straight from the reclaim process which is covered in dust and dirt or you can buy it washed and graphited. The graphite process makes it flow much more consistently through the charge bar in loaders. Not sure if it really affects how the shot performs when firing.

With my luck if I bought reclaimed shot it would end up being the bag from the skeet field and be almost all #9 shot and then my sporting clays scores would plummet.

Thanks everyone for the help!

At this time i'm not interested in the reclaimed shot. Maybe if i can't make the economics work out with new shot i'll revisit it.

Is the reclaimed shot @ Metro presorted size wise or grab bag? If anyone has experience I'd be thankful for the info.

I'm 90% sure it's a grab bag. At least I don't recall seeing a number on it when I was looking at it. I doubt it's economical to sort it. I would guess it's probably something like 50% #8, 25% #7.5 and 25% #9 assuming what was collected is well mixed. Other thing to consider is from what I understand promo target loads are all softer chilled shot so it's going to probably be at least 90% chilled shot. The new bags you find for sale are magnum shot. I hear you used to be able to buy bags of new chilled shot but I have not seen it since I started reloading.

last time i bought reclaimed lead it was in a milk jug and was completed unsorted/uncleaned. i dumped it on a an old cookie sheet and ran a magnet over it and pulled out obvious rocks and clutter and found some copper plated what appeared like 4's in the mix and discarded.. i reloaded the reclaimed lead as practice rounds for trap/skeet/sporting.. tournament/competitions/league sporting i used factory shot or factory loads. at the time for the amount i was shooting i think it was a decent savings that allowed me to get a few more practice rounds in that i probably wouldn't have.
