I have rather an odd, I suppose request. I am looking for where I can purchase The round nuts that go on the powder drop tubes. They must be a different kind of thread, because I cant seem to match them up to any bolt size. I would like find 3 or 4. Thanks much

What is the OD of the thread that is currently nutless? A GOOD, hi-rez picture would help. And finally, if Ace Hardware doesn't have it, you are going to have to EM Lyman directly to get replacements. You have 4 categories to look in:

SAE coarse thread
SAE fine thread
Metric coarse thread
Metric fine thread

So are you saying that you know what SAE fine threads and Metric fine threads look like well enough to tell them apart, and that it's none of those?? Officially, there is no such thing as a "machinist thread" unless FJ540 has had too much to drink, and he cooks up a metric thread diameter with SAE thread spacing......

In addition, it makes absolutely no sense for Lyman to use a proprietary screw thread for ONE part on a powder measure that they want to sell to as many people as possible.



Measure the OD of the threaded part, or the ID of the nut, and then try and count the number of threads per inch. There are LOTS more threads than these, but they are all described by the same naming system.

When you say, "The round nuts that go on the powder drop tubes" are you talking about the lock rings like are used on a die?

I'm not familiar enough with the M55 measure, but the Redding and RCBS measures are the same thread as reloading dies.

According to the Lyman web site the #55 has a 7/8 x 14 threaded adapter.

Well, there you have it!! The measure takes a standard die lock ring. Available anywhere reloading dies are sold.

BTW - the "split ring" nuts with a cut through the ring are the best. The solid rings with the allen screw in them area PITA, don't hold properly, and eventually bugger up the die or powder measure threads.

I have been to a auto parts store. Could not find any SAE or metric thread to fit. It appears to be about 5/8 in diameter. Yes I found on the Lyman site and others that they sell an adapter to fit the regular 7/8-14 coarse thread, but I would need the inside thread of the adapter. I have sent an email to lyman to see if i can purchase the nuts from them. If anyone has the link to Lymans parts I would appreciate it

Auto parts stores are for parts for cars, period. They don't make a living selling bolts and nuts in all common sizes. Ace hardware DOES make a living selling bolts and nuts in pretty much all common sizes. In addition, 7/8-14 is a FINE thread, not a coarse thread. That being said, the only place to get a bushing with a 7/8-14 outer thread and a WTFizzit?? inner thread is Lyman. I doubt there is any other source for that particular part. One phone call or EM should do it.

If you can't find a part you need, come to my place and I will make you one.

Be sure to bring all associated parts so I can guarantee a near perfect fit.

If you have a round or hex chunk of 4140 or similar steel of the diameter required, bring it also.

the 7/8x14 adapter on a #55 is part #7392036. Lyman # 1-800-225-9626

The lock ring is Lyman # 7990265, the manual doesn't say what the threads are.

If it's a 9/16-18 thread like some of the old dies were, they can be had on ebay $6.00 including shipping.

Okay, here's a 9/16"-18 hex nut at Home Depot. Yes, it's hex instead of round, but it should work just the same. It will set you back all of 63 cents.
