Wideners

Postby BigDog58 on Thu Mar 02, 2017 11:27 pm

For the last couple of days I have looked at Wideners website looking to check their prices on powder and primers. To my surprise, there is NONE listed. It looks like they are no longer selling primers nor powder. Has anyone else noticed this, or heard anything about them getting out of powder & primers?

Previously, they had some pretty good prices on both, and usually in stock.

Demand is WAY down right now. Could be they decided having a hazmat dept wasn't worth it anymore.

Probably the effect of 8 years of Obama in the White House, and a famine mentality towards guns and reloading components. I know I looked at them to buy powder down here, but when you do the math with the Hazmat fees and shipping, it was back up at full retail or a bit beyond.

Right now Graf and sons has a flat $20.00 hazmat fee.

Was Wideners ever a major player in the primer/powder market? It seems to me every time I checked their prices were high or they didn't have what I wanted.
I will never apologize for being an American.

I believe that the owner (Stan?) Widener sold the business a year ago.
You might have noticed the change to the look of the website last year.

It used to be a brick and mortar store as well located in TN, the new Wideners is online only.

The new owners also dropped the milsurp firearms.
I bought my first Swiss K31 from them several years ago.

I emailed Wideners earlier today and just received the reply below.

"Hi Jim,

Thank you for checking in. Unfortunately you are correct, we will no longer be carrying powders or primers. Storage and transport rule changes along with rising fees have made it near impossible to continue selling at any kind of profit without cranking the prices way up. We will still be carrying bullets and brass as well as factory loaded ammo, but we are sorry to say the hazmat selection will be no more.

When I brought from them back when, they were pretty much exclusively mil surp stuff- brass, bullets and powder along with some mil surp weapons.

Since they got into general firearms supplies, the prices were not as good and inventory of what I wanted was really spotty. I think I last brought from them in the days before 9-11.

It's too bad, as I did like dealing with them back when.
