Caseless Telescoped Ammo

What do they mean by "telescoped"? It's mentioned in this article, https://warisboring.com/the-case-for-caseless-telescoped-ammunition/ Can it really be that caseless ammo has finally moved off the list of "nifty but unworkable concepts", and might actually be able to live up to its potential benefits?

Caseless Telescoped Ammo

"Telescoped" means that the bullet is set back into the propellant block, not sticking out the front, like"normal" cartridges.

Here's a link to a 2013 article that briefly discusses guns using cased telescoped ammunition;

A more recent (2016) article about plastic (polymer) cased ammunition. This looks more likely to me to be adopted any time soon;
http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2016/09/02/future-firearms-ammunition-technology-008-plastic-cased-telescoped-ammunition-lightening-load-pt-4/

Finally this article goes into detail on a UK 40mm system that discusses many issues involved with fielding such a weapon (cross sections of ammunition given);

Seems to me the military is trending toward cased, not caseless, ammunition. Which will probably influence the civilian availability of such.
