.224 Valkyrie? Any insight?

A place to discuss calibers, ammunition, and reloading

I'm a big SBR fan so I started running some numbers for the 224 Valkyrie. If we assume the Valkyrie will lose 50 fps per inch of barrel, then the 90gr FGMM load will be running around 2100 fps out of a 12" barrel. I'll use one of my 12.5" guns for comparison. That upper will run Mk262 clone ammo at around 2500 fps with a 77gr SMK. Using JBM ballistics calculator for simplified trajectory, the 224V load goes subsonic around 850 yards while the Mk262 is subsonic around 800. If you handload and are willing to push the 224V a little (or the round loses less than 50 fps per inch), the Valkyrie will stay supersonic until around 950 yards with a 2250fps muzzle velocity.

That looks what I am looking for provided the loss is 50 fps per inch. Wish someone would post results with the 18 inch uppers. Am a "pistol" guy myself (screw paying $200 extorsion fee"). Have been looking around to see if anyone is making 12 inch barrels. No luck so far. Am thinking a 1:6 or 1:6.5 twist for the heavies too.

Get a LaRue SUURG, no stamp on the 11.5” barrel but you’d need one for the can.

I'll post when I can but I still have an unfired 6.5 Creedmoor rifle too. The Valkyrie is a 20" LaRue barrel and I never know when LaRue will ship anything, the email claims they've already made them. Gonna have to buy ammo and mags plus figure out what rifle to put it in. Try to get to DCGC ASAP.

You are going to be busy. Busy in a good way.

I was a member at DCGC at one time. I may be in a position to join again in the future, how's the waiting list theses days?

Not sure. Took me three years to get in and this is my third year as a member.
