It's a 6.8 case that has been necked down to .22 caliber. The shoulder has been pushed back to allow for the loading of long, high-BC bullets (i.e. the 90gr SMK in the factory Gold Medal load). The round is designed to run in small-frame ARs with the At the advertised 2700 fps, the 90gr SMK has pretty similar ballistics to 6.5 Creedmoor and better than ballistics for most factory 6.5 Grendel. Federal is offering 4 loads for it from the intro: 90gr SMK, 90gr Fusion, 75gr American Eagle, and 60gr Nosler Ballistic Tip Varmint. Several manufacturers have signed on to produce rifles: Savage, LWRC, JP, to name a few.

Is there any information that you are looking for specifically? I can try to answer any other questions.

Am waiting on Savage to start selling there new AR in this caliber. Street price is around 900 on a few web sites but not in stock yet.

I was going to swap out my .308 AR barrel for 6.5 Creedmoor, but I like the way it shoots now. The Valkyrie temps me for several reasons.
-Only have to buy a barrel and bolt.
-Small frame should be lighter loaded than my 16” .308 even with a longer barrel. Thinking 20”.
-Already have plenty of mags.

If I didn't have ancient eyes I’d still go Creedmoor, but realistically I’ll never shoot much past 400 yards if that.

Interesting.
My take:
- .22 caliber
- high BC
- supersonic out past 1000
-low recoil
-de-emphasized energy

Feels like a long range steel or target shooters rifle with some use as a varmint rifle.

Will be interesting to watch it develop and see how mainstream it gets.

I have nowhere to shoot much beyond 300 yards, so low interest from me.

You say you need to buy barrel and bolt but have plenty of mags. Those statements contradict each other. It's a 6.8 SPC bolt and you need 6.8 SPC mags.

When a decent 18" multi-purpose barrel shows up I may get one as the upper I have spare already has a handguard that I wouldn't want to go any longer then 18" with.

Maybe he owns a bunch of 6.8 mags but has no gun in 6.8? I own many gun related things that I have no current use for that later come in handy...

Here’s what I posted about it in the Grendel upper thread.

Valkyrie is a cool new cartridge and has great potential. I’d be concerned with cost early on.

David Fortier had this to say about it on ar15

6.5mm Grendel puts a larger diameter and heavier payload on target.
Better for hunting due to this. Also will knock over steel plates the Valkyrie
cannot at distance. Can hear the impact on steel better with Grendel, at 800
yards its hard to hear the impact of the Valkyrie.

The Valkyrie should make a fine competition cartridge, but the 90 grain Matchking
is a magic bullet and the BC of its other offerings are not in the same ballpark.

The Grendel has high BCs pretty much across the board, and is a well proven
game taker that punches above its weight.

The Valkyrie needs more dedicated bullets designed specifically for it.
I'm interested to see how the 90 grain Fusion load out of a 16 inch carbine
stacks up compared to the best 5.56x45mm self-defense loads.

Grim, I guess I overlooked that it uses different mags. That is a big negative for me. Creedmoor may still be preferable.

Creedmoor uses an AR10 vs an AR15. You can buy plenty of mags for the difference.

Just not exciting to me. I will continue to wait for my .25-6.8 barrel to come in.
