Brass question

Postby Bearcatrp on Wed Sep 18, 2019 4:14 pm

Wild question on brass on how its made for rifle. Is it a straight wall, then formed in a die or made the way it ships? Thanks

This video explains it pretty well. I hope this answers your question.

Thanks. Exactly what I wanted to know.
Next question: will brass manufacturers do custom orders? Say I wanted a cartridge already made but want it left without final step of doing the bottle neck for a rifle cartridge leaving it a straight wall. Hope I’m explaining it right.

You are talking about “basic” brass there, and some do sell that.

As to special orders, they will do it, for a large enough order. Unless you are loading for a minigun you probably won’t be asking for enough to get a special order, and even then it’s a bit more expensive.

The basic stuff might be easier to get if you don’t care what is on the headstamp. Custom head stamp costs... I wanted that once...after dickering with star line a bit, I decided it just wasn’t worth it.

I don't need any head stamp. Just the brass in a certain caliber thats already made for rifle without the bottle neck. Thanks for the info.
