A place to discuss calibers, ammunition, and reloading

thanks to pinnacle

Postby pastorpaul on Tue Aug 28, 2007 7:46 pm

i have a need and desire to openly say "thank you" to pinnacle (and his family) for allowing me into his home and watching him load up 400+ rounds of .40 so i could have enough ammo for the defensive shooting class last sunday. to say i was impressed (no pun intended) with his knowledge and manipulation of his dillon 650 would not be an adequate testimony. i spent a little over 2 hours schmaltzing with him on a number of gun topics and gained much insight. total time reloading was only about an hour!! it was like watching a concert pianist. the coolest was his invitation to contact him if i ever ad a question about reloading or shooting. he would be willing to assist as best he could. i / we am / are blessed to have him as a resource. for that matter, i believe this a common advantage that is threaded through this forum : we are in this together to assist one and all to become better defenders, supporters and practitioners of our 2A right.

Pinnacle knows a ton about reloading, indeed. I've learned a lot about it from what he's posted here and in the Reloading section at TCC. I dream of the day when I own a serious Dillon setup and can crank out hundreds of rounds per hour. For now, I can't wait to shoot the forty 9mm's and twenty .357 Mag's I loaded up last week. It only took me a few hours! ;)

Aw Shucks Guys

It is an open invitation to anyone that wants to learn to reload. There is only one way to make sure that we pass this along to others - to teach it - there are no secrets here (well there are some and I am not telling all of them.... Shhhh)

I have been fortunate that I know a lot of people a ton smarter than I would ever be - I have learned a lot - what they told me when they taught me was - PASS IT ALONG.

If we want our sport to survive - we must pay it forward. We want places like Gunstop to stay alive - we must reload and give a local guy the business (he freaking deserves it - John Walton is incredible.) You dont just buy stuff from him - you buy his assistance which is absolutely PRICELESS - compared to him - I know absolutely NOTHING - he is the man plain and simple.

It is almost to the point where we have to reload to afford to shoot. Reloading represents a 20-75% savings over buying from the store depending on a lot of factors.

Let it be known now - I will do anything that I can to assist others in learning to reload - all that I ask in return is that anyone that I teach - PAY IT FORWARD to someone else - go buy stuff from John walton - shoot more - take some classes - further your skills - be nice to one another - this is a COMMUNITY of like minded people... If we hold on to what we know and keep it all secret - who are we helping? What good purpose does that serve?

Someone taught me to reload when I was 12 - I will never forget the generosity that he showed me when he taught me - think about that - teaching someone something when they were 12 - now I am fortunate enough to share with others those same lessons... Awesome

Thank you Jerry Miller - the best reloader that I ever knew.

Was he schmaltzing you, were you schmaltzing him, were you both schmaltzing something else, if so what?

For those who don't know, Schmaltz is beef dripping or the greasy juice stuff left in the bottom of the roasting pan after roasting beef. In Germany it is eaten cold like peanut butter spread on bread with a little salt sprinkled on it for taste.

Jac714, can you imagine what that does for your arteries. :o :o :o :o :o :o

Pastor Paul, sorry I just couldn't resist.........I didn't mean to cast aspersions on your character

selurcspi - your linguistic proficiency is excellent! schmaltzing is, indeed, low german and what you said. a common and loose american translation is: "chew the fat", meaning "talked alot". my hat off to you, sir. no offense ever crossed my mind. i grinned wider as i read your post.

I can hear the arteries hardening all the way over here.

Amazing how a thread on reloading went straight to animal fat spread on bread - salted and eaten with reckless abandon :D :D . Schmaltz for my folks is rendered chicken fat spread on bread in lieu of butter for a meat based meal as dairy is verbotten for people that keep kosher. (with meat that is)

Anyhow - you are making me hungry for some soul food.

I have been to Germany, and actually had some Schmaltz on a nice Sunday afternoon on the Mosel with a fellow 3M'er from Germany, and the stuff was just downright skanky. Imagine a cross between distilled bacon grease and Cajun Roux, and you pretty much have schmaltz. It's mostly solidifed grease with just a little bit of flavor, and it has about as much appeal as a campaign promise from Governor Tim "Slow Roll" Pawlenty. [ barf smiley (:{) ]

Schmaltz might make a good case lube, but then my dog would sit there and drool and look starving while I was reloading!!
