.30 cal okay to use for 6.5c reloading?

Postby Bergie on Sat Jun 13, 2020 8:50 am

I bought a bunch of reloading supplies and am now just putting it to use. In amongst all the stuff was an old Folgers coffee can -yes, the old metal can!- and in it were hundreds of these bullets. I plan on reloading .30 to shoot from my Garand, but also want to try my hand at reloading some 6.5 Creedmoor. I think the bullet size is comparable and a cursory search tells me it is. But.....makes me nervous, so thought I'd throw it out to people who know. They're weighing in around 147grn, so heavy for the 6.5, right? See the pics for my digital measurements. If the two are compatible, anything I should know before I attempt it?

H&H ok ok, message received loud and clear. (But seriously, there are sites out there that say they’re compatible) That’s why I -new to this- turn to you guys to set the record straight and to school me on these things!

Hi Bergie.

The bullet in your picture is 30 caliber, while it will work in your Garand, it is not compatible with a 6.5 Creedmoor. 30 cal is 7.6mm and 6.5mm is 25 caliber.

Before you get too far astray into your reloading excursion, please do yourself and the rest of us on the line a favor and buy a good reloading manual. Better yet, contact OldmanFCSA on this forum and have him instruct you on how to reload safely.
I will never apologize for being an American.

Quite possibly the best advice anyone could possibly give a person with regards to reloading.

I get that. Once in awhile though, for your own safety a good chewing out by a reloading troll is good for you. Just saying.

Um, a 6.5 Creedmoor does not shoot .25 caliber projectiles, at least not very accurately. .25 caliber projectiles are .257 vs 6.5's which are .264

Do you have a link to that search?

I really doubt one could close the action without a hammer.
