Doing some case prep for next season. While swaging the primer pockets I noticed that most of my military brass has a flat spot on the edge of the case rim. The commercial brass does not exhibit this but instead has a small cut mark on the edge of the rim.

Am I looking at something typical or should I endeavor to adjust something in my rifle?

M1's are tough on brass. I had some Winchester brass that I kept track of how many times I reloaded it by the number of dents in the rim.

Yes, how badly it deforms will depend on the hardness of the brass.
