I've been looking at buying bulk for my SKS so I can start to use it more. Wolff and Bear seem to be the main choices. Is there anything that I should be looking for in particular? I'm assuming that FMJ bullet with a Berdan or non-corrosive primer is the best. Anything I should avoid?

Wondering what you think. I'm not that into the ballistics and components like you guys who reload. I await your learned opinion.

SKS is not fussy. Keep your chamber clean, and it should eat anything you feed it. Its effective range is too short to be much affected by ammo type, i.e. FMJ, hollow tip, etc. Likewise brand isn't too important either. I do like the Wolf polymer coating, as it's less likely to leave a deposit in a hot chamber.

Thanks Chunk. I'm going to pick up 1000rds at Sportsman's Guide this weekend. I guess there may be cheaper places, but the prices seem reasonable and they are convenient for me.

Not sure what the price is at Sportsmans Guide, but check Ammoman before you buy. Appears he has 1000 round cases of Wolf for $259 right now. Price includes the shipping. I haven't seen it for that price for some time. (Fleet Farms are still charging .17a round more than this.) I've ordered from him in the past with no problems.

You might also try aimsurplus.com

The big advantage of SG, of course, is that there's no shipping charges if you go pick it up yourself.
