What firearm are you using for deer opener?

I use my 12 ga rem 1100 left hand with a 22" smooth bore slug barrel/ red dot combo, in the woods load is federal truball 2 3/4" otherwise I use rem high velocity (1800 fps) win I hunt were longer shots are available. used to carry a dan wesson 357 or my python but am going to try my new toy a s&w 625 chambered for 460 rowland. the wife uses a shortened 12 gauge mossberg 500 with 24" ported smooth bore, 4x simmons shotgun scope and fiochi reduced recoil slugs, this combo is a lot easier for her to shoot accurately than her rem 870 20 gauge. she isn't confident enough to try a revolver for hunting yet but did very good with the 625 and 45 acp loads on some targets this weekend so there's hope. good luck and be safe to everyone hunting this year!

No, the Holiday Sporting Goods store on County Road 5 & 42 in Burnsville, before it was a Pet Supplies Plus. The Cub Food there used to be a Holiday grocery store also.

Okay, gotcha. I asked because I've seen some gas stations up North with pretty extensive sporting goods departments. You'd have some high-fives comin' your way if you put meat on the table year-after-year with gas station glass.

Me trusty ol' .25-06 single shot (Deerslayer) with my last remaining supply of factory (Federal) loaded Trophy Bonded Bear Claws (117 gr). Going to have to reload these to get this load again. Also will carry my Taurus .357 just for fun(180 gr corelokts). Marlin 336 .30-30 for a back up (rifle or scope issue with main, relative shows with no rifle, raining relentlesly,... that sort of thing) (160 gr Leverlution for Hornady).

No, where i am hunting provides very little requirement for a 270wsm, also the rifle is a little on the longside considering that the woods are as dense as they are in my area. Also i feel that the 250 is a better all around choice, lees blood stike in the meat, less meat lost, easier to shoot rapidly versus trying to manipulate a bolt in possible very cold weather, lighter, oh and lots cheaper to shoot.

Hunted deer for a few years with either a .357 or a .41 mag--both with 8 3/8" fully lugged and ported barrels. This year I am going back to a Mossberg 535 12 guage shotgun w/3" Winchester Super X Magnum rifled slugs. I have found I am much more proficient with the Mossberg at 75---150 yards when bambi is running.

Its a great deer rifle, better than the TIkka for anything in MN, the ammo was free, and he got a deal on the use of the rifle.

Because some of us don't have them out there posing broadside, so a good angling shot will hit the off side shoulder and a high speed round cause more meat damage than say a 45-70.

As far as head shots, I want mine to bleed out and save the heart and liver if salvageable. Have you ever looked at the color of the meat, heart, or liver when the deer was taken with a head shot? Also the fact that it is a small target and increases the chance of a wound that will cause a very slow and painful death for the deer.
