So, you are right outside of Alex? I go by there on the way to the cabin sometimes, but I usually take 10 through Motley and Wadena.

Shoot, I'd probably miss at 10 feet. I'd get all confused about the hold-over since the bore and the scope are on a different axis......

Out of Alex about 1 mile. N.E. side of Lake Geneva. Where is "the cabin" ? As far as missing--only one way to find out ;)

I'm up by Perham on Big Pine. I used to hit Alex all the time when Arrowood was owned by Carlson Companies, but I have not stopped there in a while.

It's not what you know, but who you know.

Offer to do some odds and ends chores around a guys farm/ranch. Clean up a treeline along a field, cut wood for him if he burns it. Little things like that.

Don't ask for anything. after a bit of doing this, mention that you have started to get into coyote hunting. Let the conversation go from there....

I have had best luck getting hunting access to places that are otherwise unaccessable to most people doing this. Especially if you tell them you are not going to be going there to hunt the pheasant or deer.

May want to watch how many pole-cats you take. They do a good number controlling the rat population around the livestock. Cousin made the mistake of killing 20 skunk one year around the farm. That spring the rats ran the place over. Left the skunks alone, the rats disappeared.

I don't have a place.

My screen name comes from when I was in the guard. Mom had me listed at FarmerJ and Armydude in her private messenger. I was working for a farmer in NoDak at the time. That way, she could tell if I was home or at army school....

check out a website called http://www.nodakoutdoors.com.

Look up a guy by the screen name of TheDogSlayer1.

They also have a couple of forums specifically for prairie dog and coyote hunting. those guys really get into the calling and hunting.

The few times that I have done it, I used a call. I can at least call one in each time. Haven't learned them too well, but also haven't put one on the ground yet either.

cut and paste from 2009 mn dnr hunting coyotes

"A person hunting for coyote or fox from Jan. 1 to March 15 may use
an artificial handheld light under the following conditions:
• While on foot and not within a public right of way
• Using a shotgun
• Using a calling device
• Not within 200 feet of a vehicle"

I have just started the hunting for coyotes I have a 22-250 with a 32x scope but the crops are sitll in the feilds and they are hard to see.
I did take one last deer season with the shotgun with a slug at 125 yards rolled him good.

Anyone going hunting over the holidays?

Between the bambi guts I left by the shed at the cabin and the yearling they left dead on the other end of the woods, I'm wondering if the `yote's will be cruising our woods or not?

If the weather isn't too bad, I'd like to get out and shoot some vermin on winter break (school).

Varmit hunting is best when the weather is terrible.

I've shot coyotes when it was 20 below.

The problem with -20 is that I don't go outside if I can avoid it. I've got arthritis in both knees, so cold (under 20F) and pressure fluctuations are a no-go for me.

I used to coyote hunt down at Whitewater. The place is completely empty during the winter. Lots of dogs down there, along with the beautiful views and pizza at Mauers in Elba.
I've been to the Zoo, see. From where I was standing the Lion ain't the King of The Jungle. It is definetly the Zebra.
